Our time here at 5296 Broadview Avenue. Is coming to a close.
We didn’t think we would ever sell this place as there really isn’t anything we don’t love about this unique old cabin. More than anything I’ll miss my neighbours, I’ve fallen in love with them all. Well… and our view. There’s just no view like it!
But who was I kidding? I should have known by now that there’s always another project in sight if you take a moment to peek around.

I want to thank everyone who had an opportunity to stay here. I want to let everyone who has an upcoming vacation planned here, that their vacation will remain intact. Not to worry!
We will still have cottages to share with you but on a scaled back calendar. (Don’t forget about our little beach bungalow on Chicken Island)
Our lives are just zipping past us, full speed ahead and Chris and I are just not spring chickens anymore. So this difficult decision to say so long to our beautiful lakefront home is just a step toward taking it a little easier and making some time to smell the roses. So they say….

Spent Saturday night here with the hubs, my sister and her sweetie. They cooked (the most delish food ever!) while we did the spring clean up. The gardens are turned, hostas and hydrangeas are planted, leaves were raked up and we started finishing the interior of our new garage!
Teamwork really does make dreamwork. ❤️

Write the grocery list, (cottage groceries are the best!) grab the beach towels, invite your besties.
Pack your swimsuits for the sunny days in the lake and comfy cozies for those summer nights around the campfire!

We all needed that rest this weekend! Although we celebrated with games, dog walks, food, family, and a visit from the Bunny, we still had lazy days of movies and books and beautiful spring like weather!

We are all soaking up the sunshine and gorgeous temps over here, reminding ourselves that the clocks spring ahead on Sunday and dreaming of sinking our toes in the sand this summer at the lake. It’ll be here before we know it!

Although Summer ‘24 is nearly booked solid, don’t forget that we have our newly renovated little hidden gem on Chicken Island available!

I’m completely guilty for taken a long snooze away from social media. My intent was to be fully engaged over the holidays with family and then I don’t know what happened to January or where it went but it evaporated into thin air somehow!
Time just flies away when you’re having fun!

A belated Welcome to December!

Also approaching our third anniversary here on December 23rd. Not sure what exactly we will do to celebrate but we will be up to our eyeballs in everything Christmas I’m sure!
In the three years we have owned this old cabin, I think this may be the second opportunity I’ve had to sit here and enjoy a coffee and a chapter of my newest book (and a bag of candied pecans all to myself 😳) while I wait for our last load of laundry before we head home.

This afternoon we are decorating our tree at home with our kiddos and one of my sisters I want to be lazy and order in supper which I have to admit will be the third day in a row!
I’m awfully lazy lately… I’ll blame it on the dark drizzly weather as my excuse! 😀

Touches of the season are popping up all over the cabin this weekend.
I’ve finished decorating and now tomorrow we have our annual family tree trimming day at home.

Behind the eight ball this year but slowly and surely we are getting there. Normally my baking has started and my cards are sent, all things Christmas have been checked off the list. This year I’ve hardly even started my shopping!

Please tell me that I’m not the only thing one slacking this year!

We just returned from spending Thanksgiving in Florida visiting with my sister and family.
Do the Americans ever know how to ring in the holidays!!
It’s got me all in a festive mood.

I had been debating whether or not to decorate the cottage this weekend, something a younger Tanya wouldn’t have thought twice about. But we have a three day hockey tournament in Lambton Shores and we are so lucky to have a place to stay just minutes from the arena. I figured I might as well just decorate the cottage in between games, two birds with one stone. ☺️☺️ Happy Holidays here we come!!!

I woke up to a crust of frost all over the roof and grass. A true testimony to what’s in store for us. And I have to admit, I still have pumpkins and dried stems everywhere.🧡
We are leaving in a few days to visit my sister in the Sunshine State for the American Thanksgiving 🦃 and the kick off to Christmas!
I can’t wait to help her decorate her tree and get in the spirit of the holidays. Also to give Thanks and to remind myself of the many blessings of a large and loving family and how lucky we are to have each other.
Last night was the start of the local Santa Claus Parades, the Christmas music can be heard on the radio and in the shops, I started my decorating at home and in the salon and it's just starting to feel a little like Christmas.
This year I want to focus on whats really important such as family, good food, good drink and gratitude as opposed to the over abundance of heavy shopping and gifting. How about you? 🎄❤️🎄

I didn’t get a chance to post all my autumn decor this year from all of my favourite local retailers. I just ran out of time.
Between our family vacation, hockey, Thanksgiving celebrations, birthdays, a busy calendar and then Halloween it just seemed like we had zero extra time.
We’ve closed up the beach bungalow on Chicken Island and now once Remembrance Day comes and goes I’ll be up here at the lakefront cabin decorating for Christmas.
I literally just finished taking down the last of my Halloween decorations at home this afternoon, so my house can wait a few weeks before we get our festive on here at home. 🎄
Thank goodness we got that extra hour of sleep last Sunday!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Whew! I’m exhausted!

But wasn’t that was a wonderful weekend?! Even with the high winds, the pelting rain and the cold temps, it was warm and cosy here by the fire and we were snug as bugs with the family.
Another thing to be Thankful for. My family…. and indoor heat! It probably helped that the oven was going for hours and hours on end. (Thank you electricity!)
I would not have survived the 1800’s when this old log shack was first built. 🥶 💀
We cooked the traditional turkey, prime rib, carrots, mashed potatoes, squash, turnip and all the little bits of cranberry, stuffing and gravy. It was a feast for sure and again, how grateful was I, to have a family to cook for, to eat together and to celebrate with? 🤎🧡💛
An abundance of everything well and good this Thanksgiving weekend.

Hey stranger! It’s been a few minutes for sure!
We were off on a family vacation to the beautiful United States of America. We took a lovely scenic road trip down to Tennessee to visit our long time pals, celebrated my husband’s birthday, explored Nashville and Memphis and created some great memories.
Now we are heading in to the long Thanksgiving weekend and an extra long one for the kids like mine who have a PD Day today. I went and bought my Turkey and prime rib and all the fixin’s (one week in the south and I’m a southern belle! 🤣) and I’m going to cook up a big scoff for my family and celebrate the family baby’s 2nd birthday. All up at the lake of course! I haven’t seen the place in almost two weeks and I can’t wait to see what autumn colours await me.

Sometimes when I’m here doing the turnover and making the beds, I just have to stop for a minute.
I have to take just a moment, to stop, be still, breathe, be quiet and try to find peace within. And usually this happens when I look up, and the sky and the sunset and the water just strike me with their devastating beauty.

Fall Fairs, porch packages and short days are creeping into our calendars and kicking Summer out.
I haven’t been up to the lakefront cottage since Sunday, but I’m excited to get up there to see the autumn changes. Although it’s only the middle of September, isn’t it amazing how fast the leaves can turn in just a couple of days?
I read last year that the secret to good fall colour on the trees is a recipe blend of lots of direct sunlights and cool, crisp nights.
So here’s to bright sun shiny days and campfire, sweater wearing evenings!

We finally had to cave and replace the living room rug. The rug we had has been very well “loved” and the abundance of wine, food and coffee spills is only a testament to how many families and friends have gathered and fully enjoyed their precious time here. 🧡
So we went with one of these machine washable rugs which only seems to make sense for a busy and it was fairly easy to get down and set up, although I did have my better half giving me a hand.

What do you think of the tartan print? I think it screams cozy autumn cottage! 💛🧡🤎 😍
