12 years ago today I started out on what would become one of the most unforgettable nights of my life.

The summit of Kilimanjaro was within reach and as we all climbed out of our tents in the dark and cold to start our ascent we had no idea how difficult that night would be.

We were blessed with a full moon which lit the way up the never ending switchbacks as we gained altitude. Midnight passed, then 1, then 2 and then time lost all meaning. It wasn’t until the sun started to rise that I realized we’d been moving upwards for over 7 hours.

It was the most beautiful sunrise I’d ever seen. Not sure if it was the view or the altitude but it literary took my breath away. If I close my eyes I can remember everything about that moment at Stella point - the sound of my breathing, the warmth of the sun, the frozen tears on my cheeks and the realization that we were almost at our final destination.

We reached Uhuru Peak @ 19,341 ft at 8:07am on January 27th. 🇹🇿🗻

I spent the following days enjoying well earned R&R in Zanzibar.

My Kilimanjaro certificate hangs proudly on my wall and is a reminder that ‘life begins at the end of your comfort zone
