Conditions Check 👀

With the coming of the first signs of winter, the anticipation for the heli-skiing ahead builds. The snow has started to fall in a big way this November, so we headed out to CMH Revelstoke to sample the goods before the 2024/2025 season lifts off.

The result of said conditions check?…The rumours have NOT been exaggerated.

Summary: 140cm+ of fresh snow, on average, at tree line on November 16th!

When can you book?

November 12: CMH Million Footers (those who have skied more than 1 million vertical feet with us) can book from this day on.

November 13: CMH guests who have skied over 500,000 vertical feet with us can book from these days on.

November 15: CMH guests who have previously skied OR hiked with us, as well as Ikon Pass holders, can book from these days on.

November 18: Booking opens to everyone! Call to secure your space before prices increase on November 22.

November 22: Prices increase. Call before 5 pm MT to lock in your 2025/26 trips at the best possible price.

Heli-skiing first took flight six decades ago among the granite spires of the Bugaboos in British Columbia, Canada.

It was the first successful commercial heli-skiing trip and the start of CMH Heli-Skiing. Hans Gmoser, CMH's founder and renowned Mountain Guide, led that inaugural trip on April 5, 1965. Its success sparked an entire industry and a new way of skiing.

For all the awe and beauty found out in the mountains (and trust us, there are several universes-worth of eye-bulging, jaw-flopping beauty out there), there are some things that might appear puzzling, mysterious or even strange. Why are those lakes SO blue, or green even? Wait, why do the trees grow so small up high in the mountains?

It’s high time that those questions were answered. We’ll take the lead here, especially since we come across blue lakes and tiny trees aplenty around our CMH lodges in the summer.

Don't get the wrong idea...

Debunking the 7 most common myths & misconceptions we’ve heard (and we’ve heard a LOT) about heli-hiking.

1. YOU MUST JUMP OUT OF A HOVERING HELICOPTER 😮

The incessant thud-thud-thud of the spinning rotors fills your ears and a craggy, pointy peak with sweeping cliffs on either side lies six feet below the hovering helicopter. Tom Cruise (in full Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell regalia) gives you the thumbs-up, urging you to make your jump. You can almost hear Kenny Loggins shredding ‘Danger Zone’ as you steady yourself, ready to leap…

Nope! Our professional pilots work with our guiding team to find safe, level areas to land the helicopters. You’ll only depart the heli once it has landed on solid ground. Exiting the machine takes one easy step down, much like getting out of a truck or navigating the final step of a ladder. Not to mention, your guide will help everyone exit (and enter) the helicopter safely. Stand down, Maverick!

☀️ TIME FOR A TASTE OF SUMMER ☀️

It’s 5:47 PM. You’ve wrapped up a long day hiking in the mountains with a crew of buddies. The sun has kissed your face, and sweat has soaked your socks. Smiles all ’round, for sure. But it’s been a long day and the handfuls of trail mix and swigs of lukewarm water at the bottom of your pack just aren’t hitting the same. Your taste buds start to tingle at the thought of a fresh craft cocktail. It’s 5 PM, after all.

A COUPLE CANADIAN COCKTAILS 🍹 🥃

Our friends, and Alpine Appétit partners, have shared two cocktail recipes for you and the crew to whip up after your mountain adventures. Sip these in person at this summer’s Alpine Appétit hiking and culinary trip to CMH Bobbie Burns.

💛 The Triple B (Bobbie Burns’ Bird)💛
Fruity and spicy with a frothy, pineapple finish.

1.5 oz BRBN Okanagan Spirits bourbon-style whisky
¾ oz Amaro Classico
1.5 oz Pineapple Juice
0.5 oz Lime juice
0.5 oz Simple Syrup

Measure all ingredients into an ice-filled shaker. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass.

The pineapple juice adds a subtle froth. Garnish with a slice of pineapple or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra points.

💜 The Perfect Pear 💜
A crisp, refreshing summer sip topped with a splash of soda water.

1 oz Barlett Pear Brandy
1 oz Haskap Liqueur
0.25 oz Maraschino Liqueur
1.25 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Simple Syrup

Shake all ingredients into an ice-filled shaker, strain in a pretty cocktail glass (or mason jar ) and top with a splash of soda water.
