The Snow Leopard

Ladakh India

The snow leopard is the world's most elusive big cat. Jason George from Jason George Photography and I set out in February of 2024 to find these mountain ghosts. We were blessed with three amazing sightings on our 6 day journey through the Himalayas in Northern India.

Our first sighting was a snow leopard hunting right in our lodges backyard. Images from this sighting are the Ibex fighting. These were what the leopard was hunting; without success. No success capturing a useable image here of the snow leopard.

Our second sighting was after sitting for 8 hours staring at rocks about a 2 km hike from the road. The leopards were napping on a sunny ridge about a mile up the mountain from where we waited patiently all day. Just before the days end a mother and her 2 cubs started to play. I cried it was amazingly beautiful to see.

Our final sighting was on the last day at sunset (again). We travelled along the mountain line following a mating pair playing along the ridge line. After getting home; Jay discovered he had captured them mating in one of his pictures.

The photo of the leopards running is a composite of them running and playing along the ridge line.

While I wish we could have gotten closer images (there is cropping in most of these); I will forever be in awe for being blessed with not just 1 sighting; which is rare, but 3 sighting. Thank you God for such Blessings
