India is raw, authentic and chaotic … in all its messiness, it’s just a thing of beauty.

If you are just passing through on a stop over, rather than spending one night in an airport hotel, add a few days to get out and explore Delhi. It is nothing like anywhere else I’ve ever seen. From the bustling streets and busy back alleys to the beyond incredible street food.
🍛 You’ll want to take a reputable street food tour to make sure you are staving off ‘Delhi-belly’ and don’t miss out on the adventurous tuk tuk rides. 🛺
💪 We did three tours in three days with three fabulous female guides who share a unique perspective on women’s rights and struggles in the male-dominated culture. It was eye-opening, educational, inspiring and powerful! 🔥
If India is your destination, plan for a long stay and explore from the 🏔 to the 🌊 from ancient cities to the backwaters. You’ll always be amazed!

Peru may be best known for the iconic Inca trail but do you know about its many other challenging, unique and fascinating hiking options? Here are just a few:
🥾 Lares Trek - You can do the lesser-visited Lares trek which crosses Dead Woman’s Pass, a higher peak than the Inca Trail and stay in basic local homes and huts instead of camping. You’ll clean up and rest a night in a hotel at the base of Machu Picchu and enjoy the sights with full energy the next day.
🥾 Santa Cruz Trek - This is one of the shortest, high altitude treks in Peru. You’ll climb from the Santa Cruz Valley to the spectacular Punta Union Pass at 15, 580 ft. It can be done backpacker-style or upgraded camping.
🥾 Choquequirao - Traverse ancient Inca paths through various climates as you ascend and descend this unique and rarely visited route to the lost Inca city of Choquequirao. You’ll be treated to snow capped peaks, rich history and off the beaten path adventures.
🥾 Moonstone Trek - Check out unexplored ruins along an isolated route in the high Andes Mountains. Expect to pass through rarely visited small communities and see glacial peaks towering above you. Don’t expect other tourists though, you’re not likely to see any! Go! Get out there and enjoy time in nature. Challenge yourself. Visit off the beaten track destinations and support rural tourism. It’s good for you. It’s good for the world!Have you done any trekking in Peru? Tell us in the comments, what did you love about it?

🚴♀️ Do you love riding your bike at home and think you might be interested in seeing a new destination by bike, but then you talk yourself out of it because you think you aren’t fit enough?
Yup, I hear you!
I’m 40+.
I’m a fair-weather, weekend cyclist on mainly flat, wide, groomed trails.
I hate hills.
I’m not fast or fit.
🚵♀️ Despite all of that I went on a mountain biking trip in the coffee region of Colombia. It was my first trip in two years. It wasn’t a leisurely cycling trip. It was a mountain biking trip in a destination with REAL mountains, not the little hills we have in Nova Scotia!
After booking, I panicked.
Would I be the oldest?
Would I be the least experienced?
Would I be the least fit?
Would I hold up the group?
Would I spend most of my time in the support vehicle?
Would I be able to do it?
Can you relate?
Let me tell you something … I wasn’t the oldest. I wasn’t the least experienced. I didn’t hold anyone up. I didn’t spend one minute in the support vehicle instead of riding. I didn’t always ‘keep up’ but guess what? It didn’t matter!
❤️ I had an incredible time. I shook off the pandemic dreariness and had amazing experiences in Colombia, by bike, that I will remember forever. ❤️
💪 Hope this encourages you to get out of your comfort zone and go for it. I did it and you can, too!

Do you simply want to see the sights when you travel or do you long for an authentic local experience? Have you ever had an amazing guide take you off the beaten path to somewhere you'd never find on your own?
🌴 The Cocora Valley has become a top destination in Colombia for seeing the tallest wax palm trees in the world. But what if I told you there’s somewhere far better!
The Cocora Valley is already becoming overtouristed. It is developed with parking lots, trails, restaurants, family games and Instagram frames.
If you want to see an authentic side of Colombia, get away from the crowds. Go to where the wax palms are protected in forests, rather than where they stand alone in sadness and within a few years will fall.
⛰ Go with a local guide who has arrangements with the local mountain communities to use their land.
🥾With the right guide you can walk through the mountains, valleys and forests to experience it, not just see it!
🐄 It is truly spectacular to see the grand heights these trees reach and to meander down the foot and cow paths with no one around.
🛻 The Jeep Willys from town will take you up the mountain, but no stops to walk, enjoy nature or explore like we did.
I learned about conservation, the importance of the forests, local life, FARQ history and heard stories of my guide’s younger life growing up during Geurilla-times.
✅ It was one of my favourite experiences and best adventures in Colombia.
Don’t skip the guides when you are travelling! They are deeply rooted in community, highly educated in history and other specialties. They help keep you safe, entertained and are your connection to the locals.
Drop a note in the comments if you’ve ever had a guide take you on an unforgettable trip off the beaten path! Where did you go?
Still reliving wonderful ship moments on the DUMONT D’URVILLE!
Every day at 4pm we had tea time with the pastry chef, Axel. Some days it was cookies, others - macron. This day was crepes Suzette (orange sauce & grand marnier) or chocolate & caramel.
#PONANT
Just back from our morning excursion to Placencia lagoon in Belize. I saw my first manatees! Sorry the video isn’t great, but it’s there!! Then we saw dolphins as we arrived back on ship!
Come check out my favourite spot on Le DUMONT D’URVILLE ship that I’m currently sailing on!
The Blue eye bar is an experience for the senses! It’s unique to Ponant. It’s an underwater bar in the hull of the ship, built to make you feel like you are in the mouth of a whale. It has two huge ‘eyes’ where you can watch the sea zooming by while sailing, or if the ship is stopped you can see the marine life. It’s also equipped with sonar to hear marine life in the surrounding 3 miles.
What do you think? Would you spend time here?

3 of 3 - Community work takes place from 8 am to 10 am ish, then each community hosts a town meeting where important governmental and community updates are provided. The meetings also provide reminders and education about the importance of washing daily, using soap and staying healthy. They encourged people to continue to work together to prepare for the rainy season by preparing their homes, patching holes in roofs and continuing fieldwork for the betterment of their community. They also talked about the importance of education for a competent population for the future. Since school is mandatory, they were asking community members to report children who were skipping classes.
Other than business, there is also time for celebrating their hard work as a community. What better way to celebrate than with music & dance!?
2 of 3 - During Umuganda (last Saturday of every month), senior officials spread out to work in the communities. The vice-mayor of Kigali as at Gahanga the day we participated. He pitched in to help on the fields, as well as taking time out to chat with us about Umuganda.
There were Urban planning officials, military, the deputy minister of education and other dignitaries in attendance as well. They spread out through all of the communities on these days to show their support, to participate in the work and to build relationships with the locals.
Can I show you the cutest little gorilla chest-beat? 🥰 Seeing these magnificent animals in real life was incredible! Thank you Rwanda for all your conservation efforts!
Last night we stayed just outside volcanoes national park. We had local entertainment at the lodge. They are a group of disadvantaged youth who does cultural performances - dancing & drumming - to help raise funds for their education. They were so beautiful & so much fun to watch!
