With a parade comes a little bit of traffic.

We're masking up, dressing warm and getting ready to celebrate the holiday season's kick off in HRM.

That kick off is, of course, the SaltWire Holiday Parade of Lights, presented by Eastlink.

And as we do, the Halifax Regional Police are asking folks to use caution, and take their time, as they navigate the following street closures:

Road closures on Nov. 20 will begin at 3:30 p.m., and will reopen once the parade has passed. Affected streets include:
* Upper Water Street
* Barrington Street overpass to Spring Garden Road
* Spring Garden Road to Queen Street
* Queen Street to Morris Street
* University Avenue to Robie Street, and
* Robie Street to Spring Garden Road.

When you head down to the SaltWire Holiday Parade of Lights, presented by Eastlink, why not stop in at a local business on your way?

Many will have extended hours, and holiday treats, for you to peruse. Midyat Taylor, open from 4 to 8 p.m., will have holiday masks, ornaments and decorations available for purchase.

Many Scotia Square food court kiosks will also stay open until 6 or 7 p.m., and some will be open even later:

* Subway, open till 8 p.m.
* Far East, open till 7 p.m.
* Tim Hortons, open till at least 7:30 p.m.

Parade spectators can remove their mask while eating or drinking, but should mask up again once they're done.

As you gear up, and mask up, to head down to the SaltWire Holiday Parade of Lights, presented by Eastlink, stop by stop by Downtown Halifax’s Welcome Centre for more holiday cheer.

The welcome centre will be open from 4:30 to 6 pm at 1546 Barrington Street, where festive carolers will sing songs and where people can grab individually wrapped holiday cookies before the parade begins.

Hey HRM! Do you live near Dartmouth and are wondering about how to travel to the SaltWire Holiday Parade of Lights, presented by Eastlink this weekend?

Don't worry — Halifax Transit is here for you!

Passengers can travel on the Alderney Ferry for free, with a donation to Feed Nova Scotia, from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20. We can't wait to see you there!
