http://www.etsy.com/shop/ShhDollWorks I started Shh Doll Works after a 30 year career in the legal field.

Sewing was something I enjoyed early on and with the arrival of grandchildren found a passion for making fashion doll clothes. I have a focus on detail and the finish of the fashions I make. All fashions are made from new material and in a smoke-free environment. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy the fashions posted as much as I have had making them. This is my latest set. I've done this dress before, in different fabric. This set included the dress with zipper closure, tulle shawl, crinoline, purse, rhinestone choker and earrings.

I'm still on wintery fashions. This one took me quite some time to finish - I seemed to be suffering from lack of concentration, and the post-Christmas doldrums perhaps. Anyway, I decided to tackle the boucle wool I have and thought it would look good as a jacket. Boucle fabric is made from irregular and knotted wool and has a lot of texture. It's also a pain to work with. This set included the jacket, turtleneck top, leggings, purse and earrings and a rhinestone broach. In the photos the broach is difficult to make out on the jacket's lapel. I called this set "Classic in Black and White".

Choosing the right doll to model a set is very important. However, I really think I didn't chose correctly with either doll this time. The brunette is a new doll which I was able to pick up at a very good price. She's an older model and this was definitely the wrong set for her. I also ended up not liking the blonde in this set. I had the fashion on another doll before the camera was set up but I changed my mind on the doll. Another mistake, I think. However, I really like the set and it sold quickly. The fashion included the hooded jacket, turtleneck knit sweater, leggings and tote bag.

Today I did something very stupid: While using a open-toed presser foot (I was trying to do machine tailor tacks on black and white boucle wool because I was too lazy to do them by hand) I put the machine needle straight into my finger!!!! OW!!! I pulled the needle out of my finger, almost no blood. At the time I was trying to disentangle the thread under the presser foot and had my foot on the machine pedal. Stupid!!! Hubby administered first aid and was appropriately consoling.

Here is the same coat pattern as the pink plaid coat in the post below, only I cut it as a jacket. Included with this set is the red turtleneck sweater, black leggings and Ultrasuede purse. As an aside, often when tying fabric doll belts the belt ends will stick straight out as there is not enough weight for the belt to lay down. With the pink coat below I weighted the ends of the belt with a buckle and metal end. With this red plaid I tied a half Windsor knot on the belt which helped tremendously in getting the belt to lay down and not stick straight out!

As Canada Post is now back to work, I'm happy to again be able to list in my shop some fashions that I completed during the strike. This first set, "Winter in Pink", has sold. The set includes the trench-style coat in pink plaid wool, white wool skirt with pink blouse and a pink purse.

It's difficult working with fur! It goes everywhere! I do keep my trusty handheld vacuum close by, but still the fur flies! This set included the soft fleece jacket in winter white finished with a white faux fur shawl collar. I added the black and silver bustier for under the jacket and black spandex leggings. The purse is made with black Ultra Suede. The black pearl earrings were included. I named this set "Girls' Night Out".

This is the same dress as the glittery dress below, only this time in blue and white cotton print. As it's a summery dress, I added a hat to this ensemble. I named this "Portuguese Blues", as the different shades of blue in this set reminded me of Portuguese Azulejo tiles.

A party dress! I called this fashion "All That Glitters". I used dupioni silk under the glittering tulle. It was a tough call as it is very pricy fabric to put under the tulle. But being 100 percent silk, a dream to work with plus it added a beautiful and subtle luster to the fashion which one doesn't get with polyester fabrics. And, of course, the tulle overlay matched the colour of the silk perfectly.
I likely posted too many pictures, but this was, IMHO, a stunning and classic fashion!

I do have to remember to paste my Etsy shop name on my posted photos. Earlier this year someone copied my photos and posted them on FB as their own. Sigh....

This little suit included the Chanel style jacket with faux pocket flaps, short A-line skirt (both done in a soft wool blend), sleeveless taffeta blouse with pintuck detailing, purse and delicate drop pearl earrings. I particularly like this gingham wool fabric, so though this is a spring-style suit, I had to make this set up despite the coming of fall.

I can't say too much about this suit, other than the jacket is a bit of a challenge. However, it was hard to part with and it sold immediately. I believe I've made this suit three times now, but it's worth the final result, IMHO. It is modeled by my Liz Taylor Silkstone doll (she's been in her box for quite a long time) and Poppy Parker doll.

Every year I intend to do a Halloween fashion for the end of October, but by the time I put my mind to it, it's already too late to photo, sell and mail it out. (Yes, I do procrastinate). But this year I did get to this one fashion well in advance of Halloween.
I saw a pyramid style purse recently, and once I had finished this red sequined fashion I thought that style and shape of purse would work well. Still, being my first attempt, it was a challenge.
I called this fashion "Elvira in Red". My models are my 3 most "witchy/vampiric" dolls: a Poppy Parker with a very outré 1960's hairdo, an East 59th Street doll (both dolls by Integrity Toys), and finally a Silkstone Barbie by Mattel.

I really love the various shades of chartreuse, but it's hard to find a matching shade in fabrics, pleather and vinyl for the various accessories. So after I made this dress I was at a loss as to what to make a coordinating purse from. I decided to make the purse from the same silk chartreuse that trims the dress and the hat, and I overlaid the green silk with the sinamay which I had used in the hat. It worked out much better than I was expecting. Plus it gives the purse structure and a nice summery look, IMHO. I called this set "About Town".

It's been a busy summer and I didn't manage to add many fashions to my Etsy shop. However, as my daughter will be attending the IT Convention in October, I did take some time to do these 9 sets for her to take as table gifts. I had some trouble setting up these girls without their stands. There were a couple of tumbles, but they had a soft landing on the “fur” carpet.

I've returned to my sewing room after a short break, and I thought I'd settle in and start with a style I've done a number of times before. I found this atomic-style print fabric at a local fabric store. It's really not entirely mid-century: if you look closely, the print includes computers. Those didn't show up until the late 80's - if one doesn't include dedicated word processors.
This set included the dress with pink satin cummerbund and side pockets, brimmed hat trimmed in satin, pink tulle crinoline, pink vinyl purse and pink and green earrings. I called this "Touch of Pink".

Black and white is always a show stopper, and I found this Barbie print at my local fabric store some time ago and I finally got around to making it up. I called this set, “Who, me?”
