This year marks the 20th anniversary of "Our Divas do Christmas." This production provides a mixed mandate to showcase the artistic talents of local performers. All shows were a sell-out. Bravo to the performers and organizers.

As the Christmas season approaches we make sure we attend various ceremonies which highlight Newfoundland Labrador culture. Last night we went to Heritage Square Seniors Centre, in CBS and enjoyed their choir singing. See what else you can find and post on this page.

This past week St John's was home to the Kioti Grand Slam of Curling with professional rinks from around the world. We witnessed some of the best curling imaginable. Home town favourite Brad Gushue's rink did not come up winners but Newfoundlanders still love them. Rachel Homan's Ontario team brought home the Women's Championship for Canada and Alberta's Brad Jacob's lost in the Men's finals to Scotland.

The Grand Slam of Curling is happening for the next week in St. John’s. The Mary Brown’s Centre will host the KIOTI National taking place from Nov. 26 to Dec. 1, 2024.

One of the original events in the Grand Slam of Curling, the KIOTI National features 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the world. Newfoundlanders will be watching their favourite son Brad Gushue – Olympic champion - as he progresses through the tournament.

The MV Calvert was in St. John's harbour. It is a state-of-the-art green class offshore ground fish vessel operated by Ocean Choice International. It is 74 metres in length, 3800 gross tonnes and has a cargo hold of 1700m3

A recent visitor to our St. John's harbour was the luxury yacht "Senses," 195 feet long, with a beam of 42 feet. It sleeps 12 passengers served by a crew of 14. Built in Germany in 1999 Senses was refitted in 2015. You can rent out for apps US$45,000 per day!

Historic Sites NL offer excellent programs and inspiring presentations. Last weekend we attend Kenn Harper's talk about his 50 years of experiences in the Labrador and Greenland regions. His focus in this lecture described what happened to Inuit peoples who were removed from their ancestral home and placeD on show as "living ethnographic displays" in the U.S. and European museums, His book, "Minik," weaves a heartbreaking tale of the experiences of a young Inuit boy.

The explorer yacht Scintilla Maris was recently in St. John’s harbor and we had a chance to meet and talk with the owner, Erik Vonk

He is CEO Randstad Holding net worth as of July 19, 2024 is $8.78 billion. Randstad Holding NV operates as a global provider of HR services including temporary staffing, permanent placement, recruitment of middle and senior managers, on site consulting, and seconded specialists.

Vonk has converted a trawler into 45.6m explorer yacht Scintilla Maris. Her value is $75 million, her annual running costs are around $8 million.

On Highway 100, approximately two hours from St John's, you will find a beautiful veterans' memorial at Angels Cove on Placentia Bay. It is dedicated to all veterans but names one Murray and 13 members of the Coffey family. Stop for a moment of silent reflection and remembrance. Lest we forget.
