Knowledge is only potential power. Real power is when you put your knowledge into action. To achieve financial freedom you need to take action!

TSX daily view chart: I showed you this chart on Sunday (two posts ago). It was coming up to its 50 day average (the blue line) and then found resistance there. Although completely unpredictable beforehand, it's not a coincidence that it behaved like that on that line. Technical analysis is a proven tool to help towards investing properly...short and long term.

People often hear about stock tips or read about how a specific sector is going to double and think, 'Oh boy, I have to get in on that'. It's often that immediate, emotional response that is the wrong thing to do.

KnowledgeClub: Crude oil and prices at the tank

Wondering why crude oil is dropping and your gas prices haven't went down yet? This time around there were a lot of unusual factors - Libya, margin requirements, retail competition. Rest assured, there's talk that this week will see some relief.

TSX: 2 year, daily view

What we can see is the TSX coming down to its most recent low of $13,275. Break below that point and it's reasonable to expect that we will see a test of the enormously psychological level of $13,000 (which we haven't seen since Dec 1, 2010). Energy (Oil) and Materials (Potash, Barrick Gold) make up 48% of the TSX index - both sectors are facing recent headwinds so a bullish short term trend may be in the making...

Say what you may, but a Conservative majority is exactly what we as Canadians needed in order to prove to the world that we have a plan and are united in our method towards achieving it. NDP's rise is a welcoming change and I'm very much looking forward to these next 4 years.

Financial Planner Vs Stock Broker Who’s Who?

You can save money by picking your own funds/stocks, preparing your own taxes, doing your own renovations, and selling your home without a realtor. The trick is to know when you do need help and when you don't.
In terms of investing, asset allocation - not stock selection - determines more than 90% of investment returns.

Our 'last minute picks' are based on simple technical analysis strategies. Since Jan 17, 2011 we are up 31.65%. Definitely not the way to invest all your money but learning the principles behind selecting stocks and which direction they will head in the short term is obviously not based solely on chance. Moch portfolios are everywhere but learning from people that have experience is key.

Match your investments with your goals, not the other way around - don't have a goal to become a millionaire from the market and then put your money in wildcard bets hoping things will work out.

A good week for most. Exposure to the energy sector, and mineral-based positions did well. Oil (TSE:HOU) is looking like it's hitting some resistance, Silver (TSE:HZU) is still going up. I'm hearing a lot about Uranium (TSE:UUU). Top gainer was First Point Minerals (CVE:FPX) at 20% for the week.

If a $100 dollar bill flew out of your wallet and was caught in the wind, how far would you go to try and catch it? When you buy something, do you look at the price tag and read the fine print beside 'extra costs'? Do your investments get as much attention? The industry is full of hidden fees, learn about them, no one should care more about your money than you.

Swiftrade traders P/L from August 2003 -- it was common that some of us did 10% of the daily volume on the stocks we traded...we were almost market makers....good times!!

7 Habits of Wealthy Canadians | ProfessionalReferrals.ca - Financial Advisor, Estate Planning, Insur

It amazes me how debt can make people blind to their actual circumstances. It's so powerful that it continually causes them to spend above their means, worsening their situation. I wish I had a dollar for every reason/excuse I heard, that from the outside, was clearly a self-justification rather than a self-awareness.

Here's a great article, http://www.professionalreferrals.ca/2005/05/7-habits-of-wealthy-canadians/

Other than income splitting, there is nothing at this point that you can do to better off your income tax situation.
If you are receiving a refund it's what you do with it that makes a difference. Don't just follow blanket strategies as financial success isn't always that easy. Current loan rates are low so debt reduction, mortgage payment, investing options, home reno's - all have different impacts.

Lots of red, everyone is down...some more than others but not a gain in sight.

I'm a market sentiment listener and it doesn't take a crystal ball to begin seeing the forthcoming trend.

In an investment sense, keep an eye on potential bear trades and keep tighter stop losses if necessary on your bull positions.
