With the US declaring their tariffs any moment, travelling and investing in Canadian products is a great way to support this beautiful country. Many countries in Europe live this exact way. Switzerland for example pridefully invests in their own products and many Swiss delight themselves in local travel. This mindset could be adopted by Canadians or even our neighbours in the south. Support Canadian made products and travel to many of our gorgeous destinations. This of course could not be a better time to visit Prince Edward County; an island with a culturally rich, old-world Canadian small town vibe and littered with locally made products. It’s quite a place to experience and it would feel good to support Canadians.

I’m always thinking of trying to make our guest experience as convenient as possible. So yes we have the chopped wood ready for pizza making use!!

It’s a fun process. We do it once a year where my husband takes out his toy (the chainsaw) and under supervision…otherwise he goes a bit chainsaw crazy cutting anything….turning logs into stumps and stacking those stumps for a minimum year long dry out.
We then recruit our friends and family, buy them a county farm store checkered flannel shirt (which are super nice by the way) and make a choring weekend experience renting a splitter to split the stumps and stacking them by the shed. It’s fun and a cold beer or local wine never tasted so good at the end…and I have to admit, the city folk always feel good choring at Old Milford House!!!!

Finally, this is where my gaggle of kids do their work. With each visit they head to the shed with the wheelbarrow and lug the split wood for stacking by the wood fired oven. There’s a method to stacking, like a puzzle making sure it doesn’t all fall down and my kids are pros at it!!
And voila! Our guests have the convenience of wood to use for their pizza creations!!

Always trying to make our guests’ vacation east and relaxing!!

As an avid sourdough bread baker, I have intentionally bake my bread for a 5:00 arrival, ready-to-eat, 5-7, happy hour time!!

Typically, bread is baked for the morning in time for breakfast but that means early rises which don’t work well for a busy mom of 4! I much rather an evening bread that pairs well with a lovely hot soup or even better with a bowl of good quality olive oil with sea salt sprinkled in it. Getting that wood-fired oven roared up just outside our kitchen and watching our bread bake is a soothing experience. There nothing better than breaking that first morsel of bread and dipping it in the olive oil while enjoying a nice glass of red from a local winery. It’s definitely how we love to spend a weekend evening at Old Milford House. Add some Lighthall cheese and voilà dinner complete. An ode to our ancestral meals where simple is best.

And it’s important to note that if baking bread seems too challenging, .co down the road from us does a fabulous job making all sorts of baked goodies including an amazing sourdough! Making your happy hour so enjoyable, especially on a winter evening by the fire place!

Experience all your dreamy dishes in this newly renovated kitchen! It comes fully equipped with unlimited unicorn dust, cloud cream and magic sprinkles.

Our chefs have cooked up some amazing dishes such as the braised rainbow stew and enchanted singing soup!!

For the realists and the logical folks out there, there’s a large wonderfully appointed kitchen with 2 sinks, butcher block and space to make any boring dish that you would like to eat.

What is it about the falling snow that just gets us so excited??

Winter isn’t fun without the snow. Have you ever noticed the giddiness you feel when there’s huge snowflakes falling to the ground? It’s like that playfulness from childhood can’t help itself from resurfacing. You want to just drop everything, throw on some winter wear and get outside to play!

It’s a funny thing but the County holds some winter magic that we aren’t able to fully experience in the city. When there’s no snow in the city…there likely snow in the county! It’s just part of the winter wonderland here in the county. The snow is part of the slow travel that pairs so well with hot chocolate, warm cozy fires, long snowshoes by the beach and of course the spiced wine!!

Enjoy our snow-covered views and cozy interiors at Old Milford House. Relax by our fire after a winter hike or skate at a local rink and enjoy a hearty meal in our fully equipped kitchen.

It wasn’t the decor, the linens on the bed or the sights close by, but rather the experience with his dad playing basketball and the hours spent outdoors playing.
It’s funny how play can capture a moment.
