Cameras don’t eat first!

Eating my way through the weekend with meals at darlings, The Royal and Bocado during countylicious here in PEC and wondered why a Michelin Star hasn’t been granted to any of these restaurants…

The history of the Michelin star all began with the automobile. The Michelin brothers who made tires included a guide for restaurant, hotels, etc with the aim of creating more of a demand for cars…and more usage of tires! Some say, the more stars allocated to a restaurant meant it was more worthy of a drive off the beaten path to experience.

I know today, the star ratings have different requirements…but if that we’re still the case, PEC deserves multiple stars!!!

Tasting these incredible dishes and experiencing the culinary talent here in the county is definitely worth the trip!!

The fresh country air on a spring day with the sun shining bright. There’s really nothing like it.

I can imagine the farmers’ wife (who once upon a time lived in this house) open this very door to let the house fill with freshness as she cooked and did her chores…maybe with a bit more pep in her step as the good weather tends to do that to us all no matter what era!

The sight line is important.

The open concept has been so popular inside the house where shared spaces make it easier and more enjoyable to entertain. In my opinion, taking that design plan outdoors is just as important especially here at Old Milford house where our outdoors include the pool, the multiple lounge areas, wood burning oven, play structure, basketball court and yard. Sitting on the back deck, sipping on that glass of wine, you have eyes on each area. No need to hover as your kids explore the play structure or play a game on the court, feel a part of the conversation as your partner builds that fire in the wood fired oven…just enjoy yourself, I got yah. Sit, relax, this is your vacation…know that I had you in mind!!

Playing can be so much fun out here in the garden of Old Milford House. While the boys played basketball on the court, my daughter and I had a wonderful time creating this magically enchanting gnome home! Weaving the annoying vines (if you recall I made garden balls with them…) into a cute fence, with a stone path and the cutest little bench and chairs my daughter and I had quite the time together.
Now our gnome needs to move in!!

Well a successful March break for the kids! With no school, a healthy sugar to treat the kids and a fun scavenger hunt it was the perfect March break activity !! The long Easter weekend is a great time to spend celebrating Maple Madness.

This place has so many spots to hang out. It’s perfect for groups where we have large communal areas to hang out but you can still find that alone time in special nooks throughout the house….if you’re the type that needs to sneak away for a moment…I know I do…well then this cute spot by the bay window may do the trick!! I’m obsessed with the love story in the fabric!

Well, sadly this pathetic “winter” doesn’t seem to really want to make an appearance…as the snow melts we move into that awkward transitional stage of muck and hot and cold weather…what to do…

There is some exciting news!! is around the corner!!

It’s that time of year to celebrate the spring, to gather with family and friends and enjoy the harvest of the maple trees. I LOVE the taste of maple syrup. I put it in my coffee, use it in my baking, my sauces, everything! But with the taste I’m transported back to my childhood at “la cabane à sucre” where we gathered my entire quebecois family to sing (spoons included), dance and feast on traditional meals made with maple syrup. I remember running around in the melted snow with my cousins with maple syrup steaming from the sugar shack. I remember the amazing taste and the mouth watering anticipation of my great uncle pouring the maple taffy onto packed snow. But most of all, I remember it was fun…so much fun!!

is the highlight of the spring. to experience numerous maple events this March and embrace this time of year with your friends and family!

When people wonder what the fuss is all about with travelling to Pec, it’s hard to describe…aside from the amazing culinary scene, vineyards,distilleries, breweries, art, nature, sailing, beaches and shops, it’s the feeling PEC brings.

Pec really is the definition of slow travel that everyone is looking to experience. It is culturally rich, the local people are kind and welcoming, and it’s a place you can feel life at a different pace.

Travel is not always about checking everything off that to do list. Sometimes it’s embracing a different environment and wow can that ever do the trick to offering that relaxation!

So the red theory trend in design where you throw a splash of red to transform a room making it much more appealing.
I checked to see if I had subconsciously done this on my very own…and yes I had…a bit.
Perhaps my struggle in interior design isn’t really a struggle…am I a pro…or do I just like red??? I think I just like splashes of red although I do feel people are attracted to the colour red…we gravitate towards it as it does catch our eye. I mean that’s how I lured my hubby my way when we first met…my bright red dress!! And it turned out very good!!

I guess the red theory does work!!

It’s a winter wonderland here at Old Milford house! The snow just makes me so happy!!
There’s going to be some great activities today. As I imagine the day now with a hot coffee in hand this is what I see….
We’ll start with a little shoveling for my city kids who have been dying to shovel (!!!!), followed by some sledding in Picton on their epic hill, some lunch at Parsons with a skate to burn off their delicious food, then head back to the old world charm of old Milford house where we’ll get the snow shoes on for a little trail walk on the property, get that wood fired oven going (because pizza don’t make themselves!), eat some delicious home made pizza, make a fire in our glorious wood fire place and enjoy a bottle from broken stone in our parlour while the kids lazily watch a movie in the great room! Everyone will be happy, no fights, and I feel like everyone will happily do everything on the list!!
I mean c’mon, this is going to be the perfect family day!!

A mom can only dream!

Hallway redesign at Old Milford House!

The upstairs hallway was calling for some change and as a PEC accommodation there’s room for creative design by injecting colour and fun into the space. Old Milford House is a spot where design can be more playful as there’s no risk of committing to a ‘look’ as it’s a holiday home.

To respect the Victorian history of this farmhouse, a light pink colour blocking was added in the hallway as a modern twist to the traditional chair rail. This adds interest and contrast with the antique decor items and establishes a fun and characterful space.
