Spring is in full swing here on Vancouver island. With the rising temperatures and the days only getting longer. There is no better time to be on the river.

The Cowichan river is arguably the best trout stream on the Vancouver Island With an abundance of fish. We have three species of trout to target at any giving time. Here is great example of a early spring brown trout that was caught while jigging streamers.

Some positive news for a change. Great to see the chinook numbers are up

BIGGEST COWICHAN CHINOOK RETURN IN 30 YEARS!

Check out these amazing chinook numbers from the Cowichan River in 2023.

Anglers reported strong numbers of chinook and coho in the Salish Sea in 2023! Hopefully the healthy stocks continue to do well in 2024 and the ones that are struggling show improvement! Sure is nice to see some of the chinook runs trending in the right direction over the last decade.

It feels extremely good to be back on the river. Finally our fall trout season is underway and the fishing has been nothing short of exceptional, even for the new anglers.

Now it's time to blow the dust off the trout rods and have some fun before the winter steelhead season starts!

We still have a few dates available before December when we are about to have some fairly major regulation changes happening.

Fishing for coho during the high water was a blast with getting deep into the canyon and showing these boys from the Uk what Vancouver island has to offer during the fall salmon migration.

This year I've had more guests from around the globe then in the previous years!

Mark made his way here from the UK to dip his toes into some wild pacific salmon. From what I can gather, I'm pretty sure we exceeded his expectations,even though we lost the third and finally day to complete blowout on the river.

We are eating well this winter. Thanks to Clint for Providing me with the opportunity to stick around for a few days after the guests went home so we could harvest a moose for our own freezers!!

After going through trail cam pics on the property and seeing that this bull had come through 2 days prior it didn't take long to find him while standing around looking for his cows, no calling straight stalking..

It's been a long hot summer but we are back doing what we love to do....Chasing salmon and trout!

Although the conditions are still not perfect and we still await the much needed rain, I've been guiding guests in the tidal waters searching for fresh incoming fish.
This at times can be a challenge but is also very rewarding when hooking these hot fresh from sea fish.

With the Cowichan River closed until further notice (or November 15th) Coho Salmon and Cutthroat Trout will have to do.

October should be back to business as usual so let's get out and fish.
