I first attended a meeting in London On in 2008 that politicians were trying to introduce legislation regarding Home Inspectors. It did no seem to go far. In 2013, I was part of a Committee from the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors that met with the Minister of Consumer Services. At that time the Ontario Government stated that they saw the need to provide some kind of Legislation but were not sure how they would be pursuing this.. Being an educated, Registered Home Inspector, and having chaired the disciplinarian committee for the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors, I've seen a lot of the problems that can happen. Regulating the industry is something that is now needed. Your home is usually your largest investment, and you need to protect it. The Home Inspection Industry has had some guidelines for Home Inspectors with one association operating under a Private members Bill, PR-158 since 1994. However since then, many other “Associations” have been started with all of them claiming to have some standards.
