The members of Real Canadian Recreation would like to take this time to thank the community, and all those who have donated to the society.

As we celebrate Tyson‘s heavenly birthday on March 30th, we remember our fearless leader. Tyson has done so much for the community and for veterans. The society is officially dissolved, and the money donated to RCR has been distributed carefully to other societies to help improve the lives of veterans and our community.
We know these societies will honour Tyson’s memory.
If anyone would like more information please see the links below.
The main recipients of our donations were:

Veterans for Healing
https://www.v4healing.com/
Rally Point Retreat
https://www.rallypointretreat.org/
The D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society-for an annual bursary in Tyson Bowen’s Name
https://m.facebook.com/descoussecommunity
Pictou County Forestry School-with a military education component

We would also like to thank Balodis Inc for their help with the PTSD memorial located in Westville. We are also adding an information panel that is more personal to Tyson’s life, his history as a soldier, and what he has done for his community beside this monument. The information panel was curated by Erin Ingraham, and was fabricated and donated by the Pictou Advocate. SteelPro has also generously decided to donate the base for this panel. A huge thank you also goes out to Maritime Design for their support and helping us throughout this venture. We are grateful to all those for helping us with this endeavour in keeping Tyson’s name alive. Thank you all.

Tyson was a beautiful person who fought hard for others, was an amazing soldier, father, friend and son.
We will never forget you.
You will live on forever.

Today this beautiful monument was unveiled at the Westville Remembrance Day Ceremony.
It was important for us to create a monument for PTSD awareness. We also wanted to remember Tyson in a special way. We wanted to do this in Westville-a town with a rich military history, and the town where Tyson grew up.
We are so grateful to the Town of Westville and their council for granting us approval of space behind the beloved cenotaph. We would also like to thank Balodis Incorporated for their donated time and expertise. They found the perfect rock, delivered it, and mounted the plaque and made it perfect. Thank you to Arsenault monuments who created the plaque, and to Kent who donated mulch. Thank you to Karla MacFarlane who has helped and supported Tyson’s vision from the start, and for speaking about him and the memorial today. This was a community effort, and we hope that this monument will create a lasting effect on its citizens for generations to come.

We will never forget them.

Tyson was honored in Yarmouth this past weekend with the OSI Rucksack March. The walk was created to raise awareness about PTSD. All donations went to Rally Point Retreat-a peer support facility helping those who helped others. We were honored to make a donation to their cause, so they can continue to help veterans.

“Rally Point Retreat provides a quiet, safe, and relaxing, rural setting on Nova Scotia’s South Shore as a respite for essential services members in treatment for CIS/CSI/OSI/OSIS/PTSD to regroup themselves and reconnect with their families, to prevent further collateral damage from traumatic events.”

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the First Annual Bowen Memorial Tuff Truck event at the farm. Nova Scotia Tuff Truck did an amazing job organizing this event and raising funds for RCR!
Tyson would have LOVED every second of this event. Our family was so happy to see his dream come to life-and it’s only because of ALL the amazing people out there who made it happen.
Thank you ♥️ see you all again next time!

Hurricane Fiona is forecast to have a significant impact on Nova Scotia late this week. We have made the difficult decision to postpone RecFest until 2023 as there is a reasonable expectation that this weather event will prevent us from safely moving forward with this outdoor event at this time.

We greatly appreciate the support the event has received from the community, and we would like to thank all of the donors, volunteers, and entertainers who were willing to sacrifice their time and resources to make Recfest happen for this upcoming weekend. We invite you all to stay involved and help us make the event a success when we confirm the new date.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused our ticket holders, or for those who made arrangements to attend. Tickets purchased in 2022 will be honored for Recfest in 2023, and all tickets can be refunded by contacting [email protected].

We appreciate your understanding, and we will see you at the rescheduled event in 2023 to honor Tyson Bowen and support Real Canadian Recreation.
