Sunrise over a city and a sunset in the Tub.

Yesterday was a fantastic day that started with a sunrise from the deck of Tre Anni over Ashbridges Bay in Toronto with a great water safety crew managed by Carly Underwater on a commercial film set. Followed by a midday drive starting out on Bayview avenue through the Don Valley and up through the countryside and county roads that connects to the town of Tobermory where I live.

After launching the boat in Little Tub harbour at at 6pm I ordered a delicious pizza from the Crowsnest and then took out a young couple for a sunset cruise. It’s a wonderful life and I love it.

A day in the life of a charter captain with Fathom Five Fishing and Private Tours

The morning dew dries on the dock as the sun rises higher in the morning sky over Little Tub Harbour, in the heart of Tobermory, Ontario. Crews clean boats awaiting the collecting crowds who will line up for scheduled departures, for set tours.

I wipe the dew from my boat, Tre Anni, check all her systems, turn on my VHF radios, then the onboard bluetooth speakers, and listen to a playlist while I await my guests. There is no line up for my passengers. This is their private boat for the next few hours. We go where they want, we see what they want, with their music and more.

For some it's a one hour quick tour to see a shipwreck, the hermit's house on Echo Island and learn the legend of the Flowerpots. For others on a two hour tour, they get to see more, with time to explore the cascading cliffs and caves of Bears Rump where Bald eagles soar. Across the open lake we come to the emerald green waters of Cave point. Searching the shoreline, we tuck the bow into a couple cave openings, as we journey to the gathering groups at the Grotto. Following the flow of fallen rocks that have broken free from overhanging points, we cruise into unexplored coves. When we return to the harbour we share the photos and videos we took along the way. This was their tour and they shared their memories with nobody but themselves. This is a private boat tour in Tobermory.

Today we got lucky. We caught a 28” 7 lb Coho Salmon with a 14” lamprey attached to it. Two for one! On this tour we hugged the shoreline enjoying the many cliffs and overhangs as well as all the caverns and caves along the way to the Grotto and Cave Point. From there we began to troll. Marking fish along the way. Just as we were pulling up the lines we had a second fish on. It was a big one as it pulled the line out and the reel wined. I set the hook wnd past the line to Cathleen. She had a hard time reeling it in and when she passed it to her friend Kieran the slack in the line was enough to let the fish escape. Next time. They took the filets back home to Richmond hill where they left from this morning so they could have a private three hour fishing charter with fathomfivefishing.com.
