Wahoo it’s that time of year again! The Halipeño is back in the water and we’re ready to fire up another awesome season of fishing and adventures!

The early birds have been getting their worms and the summer dates are filling up. We’ve been so grateful for everyone who has gotten after us and secured their summer dates. There’s still plenty of availability left but don’t snooze on booking if you’re looking for prime dates!

This content is from March 2024. The winter months are often underrated with some of our most productive numbers fishing for chinook happening January through March! We are fully operational for the season with a cozy enclosure, diesel heater and coffee maker to help keep you warm on board!

Tyeeee! What an awesome fish this was. We grabbed a quick tape measurement, 40” long by 25.5” took a couple quick pictures and got ‘er right back in the water. The fish came back to life almost instantly and was off like a shot to go make more big fish babies! The calculated weight was 32.5 lbs!

I’ve been fishing Tofino hard for 5 years now and this was the first ever fish over 30 lbs on the boat. We don’t get the same number of big fish as we used to on this coast. Releasing these big fish helps ensure more of these big fish genetics make it up the river and into the gene pool. The release to spawn rate on bigger fish is very high when they are handled properly!

Some more big springs rolling in. This one was 22 feet on the rigger in 24 feet of water. Not very often do I grab the rod for myself but I opted to hold onto it for this fish, what a blast!

It’s been a really tough spring for springs with many biteless hours and grindy days stuck on the inside in this never ending northwest wind. Today it felt like all of that was erased with just one bite! The first big spring of the year measuring in at 39 inches with a girth of 24 inches - the official math says this buck weighed in at 28 pounds!

Brett was the angler and unsurprisingly it was his 30th birthday today. Big birthday bites are a hilarious normality in the world of fishing!

Tofino is a 12 month fishery! All of these pictures were taken between December 2023 and April 2024.

There’s a certain novelty about finding good fishing outside the standard May - October season. The novelty is starting to wear off as Tofino’s consistent winter/spring fishing for winter chinook and early season halibut continues to get better every year!

Don’t overlook the “off season” because chances are the fishing is still very much so ON!

Good buddy and photographer helped document a successful halibut trip last week. Calm seas, clear skies and a 125CM halibut topped off a damn near perfect day! We ended up finishing off our limit with a cleft lip halibut, something I’ve only seen once before!

Fingers crossed for a good tuna year! 🤞

Halibut has officially opened all across BC!

This time of year halibut fishing is touch and go as we are in the middle of winter swell season. That being said there are still weather windows where we can get offshore! I took the liberty of testing the waters on February 4th and was rewarded with a nice 20 pound halibut in about an hour and a half.

This picture was taken March 26, 2023. My good friends and came out with me. We had a 3 hour Hali fish dock to dock and managed 3 halibut over 50 libs.

Winter chinook salmon fishing continues to be hot and is only getting hotter. If the swell won’t let us go for halibut we’ve got any amazing inshore fishery to take advantage of!

The 2024 summer fishing season is right around the corner and the calendar is filling up! Take your mind away from this winter weather and give us a shout. Some prime dates in July and August are still available!

Don’t overlook winter salmon fishing! Just because the weather cools off doesn’t mean the fishing does. Winter chinook salmon are often not as big as our summer salmon but there can be surprises. Fish over 20lbs in the winter time aren’t totally impossible in fact there’s fabled stories of winter tyees (over 30lbs) coming out of the clayoquot sound.

The boat has been fitted with a brand new enclosed space and a diesel heater. Beat the summer crowds and come fishing this winter!

Can’t decide between the going fishing or to the hot springs? Why not do both? We are experiencing some fantastic winter fishing a stones throw from the springs and there’s plenty of time to do both in a day trip!

Annie enjoying the calm waters of the inlet. Through the winter we spend most of our time up the inlet as the open seas are generally not manageable.

Definitely a highlight fish this summer! Taped to 27.5 pounds but it fought out of it’s class! We left 1 spot open to rub the rocks for a big one that day and on our first pass we hooked this slab. 35 feet deep on a halloweenie hoochie.

I often get asked what my favourite fish to fish for is. It is no contest spring salmon (chinook!) I’ve been chasing these things since I was just a kid and it never gets old. Seriously, I still find myself shaking with adrenaline after putting a nice spring on the boat!

Here’s a few pictures of some springs we caught this spring!
