There seems to be a glimmer of hope…. With the speed of replication and lightning speed of the dominance of omicron portends a different wave profile. South Africa reports fast spread but lower hospitalizations in a country with poor vaccination rate.. and a hint of a unusually short early peaking…
A logical hypothesis might be there was community spread much earlier and many untested symptom free cases…. This would explain the explosion elsewhere ….
It’s still a danger to overwhelm hospital wards … but if it infects silently and more effectively immunizes the population against newer strains, there could be a silver if scary lining… like finding yourself on a roller coaster you don’t want to be on…. But very likely won’t kill you.
Look to The UK to see a closer model to us as they are close to our vaccination rate and about a week ahead of us in the omicron wave….

Omicron is a big variable.
Still planning the three trips this year
Researching house rental but watching the news and keeping in contact with my virologist friend.
Early days, need a lot data but here is my take on it:
- Omicron appears to be more transmissible than delta already in 21 countries including canada.
It will become the dominant strain.
- Sout African virologist are seeing different symptoms that so far have less severe Heath effects. Severe outcome reduction could be a positive result, following a pattern from some past viral infections…
- so if it quickly replaces delta it could be a blessing in disguise.
Either we get a MNRA modified booster(not yet engineered) or we get natural immunity.
As I said very early days….

Current Covid protocols for the EU countries are that Canada is not on the preferred list but can be accessed with proof of vaccination
And a negative test just before flights. Each EU country has its own version of entry but none currently are quarantining fully vaccinated people. Currently UK, France , Italy, Spain, Denmark, Thailand and Germany accept mixed doses, with others in the process of approving mixed dose applications.
I’m optimistic about travel in 2022.

Hi FOLKS
Looking at three windows of travel oportunity;
Predicated on traversable borders without quarantines and good health

What I’ve done in the past is facilitate and cook. I can also do some or all of the driving with a copilot. We meet and get a broad outline of thoughts/guidelines and expectations then I go about researching and sharing Airbnb / vrbo spots , car rental and flights but it’s all a group think project.

1 - March break—- set for March break March 11-17th ish Azores

2 - May 20th to June 4th or 5th
Amalfi -Sicily or Emiligia Romagna ?

3- France Aug 22nd - sept 4
Open to areas…. Loire valley , cote du rhone-provence, Alsace , Belgium & Netherlands , carcassone & dordogne& cognac , haute Pyrenees
