Tecumseh Jiu Jitsu a pleasure to host at The Erie Jewel! A great day of spike ball (which was very competitive) axe toss and corn hole! Topped off with a relaxing fire. Thanks to all who came out and thanks to Coach Eric and Janice for the BBQ. Hope everyone had a great time and come back again!

Driftwood may not look like much, but it serves as important habitat for many creatures, such as small reptiles and amphibians, and small mammals! If you come across driftwood during your visit to the park, please leave it as you found it, to keep animal homes and shelters intact.

Help! This is Carl. Carl is orphaned. For the last week we have been trying to get help for Carl. No one is taking baby raccoons. Is there anyone who can take on this little guy until he is big enough to be on his own? He wanders around our cottage but he is just too small to make it alone. Please dont tell me to call Erie Wild life or any other organization. They are not taking any more raccoons.

Last but not least – visitors can help Parks Canada with monitoring in too!

Staff can’t be everywhere at once – you can help be eyes and ears on the ground and on the water by uploading wildlife and plant IDs to iNaturalist!

Whether it’s a rare species, a potentially invasive species, or just your favourite animal – snap a photo and upload your sighting. Staff check IDs in the park regularly!

Plants are just as important to monitor as animals!
You may have noticed deer exclosures in certain areas of the park. These are part of a forest health monitoring program, allowing us to compare the diversity of plants inside, where deer cannot browse vs. outside the exclosure, where deer are roaming freely.

When our guests make a purchase at this store, they leave their ballot at the store and we draw for a prize. This season has been very good to us so today Tracey and I drew 2 names!

The wants to remind all drivers to watch for all wildlife including turtles. Please do not run these reptiles over with your vehicle. If you locate an injured turtle please call the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre at 705-741-5000. ^kl

Animals are on the move! 🐢🐍
From late May to mid-July, female turtles travel from water to land in search of good spots to lay their eggs. They often cross roads to do this, especially since roadsides provide such an attractive, sandy spot to nest in! Please drive slowly in the park to allow time to stop for our slow and steady friends.

This weekend brought us guests from the other side of Lake Erie. Very nice family and it was our pleasure to host them! They write, "We felt right at home. It’s important to stay on the trails when visiting . Not only does it help keep habitats in the park safe from trampling, it can also help you avoid hazards like ticks and poison ivy!

Wonderful guests from Quebec who came to do some birdwatching. Our pleasure to host them! Their review is as follows, "Exceptional view. Beautiful sunrises. Cozy place. We enjoyed the 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. Our host was very attentive to us. For bird lovers, 3.6 km from the Hillman Marsh and 14 km from the entrance of Pointe-Pelée National Park. I recommend it."
