Have you been in Rutland lately? It has gotten so much more colorful!!

The business association and have been working for a couple years to add some color and fun to the area!!

The photo above is just one example of the murals popping up all over! If you have time we highly recommend coming to visit, checking out some of the local business and all the new artwork!

Just went for a quick walk around in

It’s feels to me like one of those places that is advertised to be accessible and it’s is, sort of, except for the little hills and loose gravel walkways that would be a little less easy to navigate in manual chair or if you are using a walker.

I like it because it’s short and there are. Lot of sitting options to rest! What do you think? Would you call this little tourist spot “accessible”??

We here at Access Tourism would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather and work is the unceded territory of the Syilx (Okanagan) Peoples.

We stand with the indigenous people here and across Canada (and all of North America) as allies in the fight for truth and justice.

We are proud of our country but we know that there were huge injustices committed and hidden from our history and we want to be part of mending these wounds and creating a country that we can all be proud to call home.

This Canada day we ask that while you are out celebrating the freedoms that we enjoy, that you take some time to educate yourself, provide support and hold space for those who have lost so much!

Hopefully next year we can celebrate truly with all our people, as these wounds are mended and we make the changes that are necessary to make sure everyone feels included!

Hello Facebook Friends! We need your help! We want to know what you want to see on AccessTourism.ca (launch date to be announced soon!)

AT is focused on making the Okanagan more accessible to tourists of all abilities. Of course, accessibility means something different to all of us! Over the next few weeks, we will be posting a new poll or question every day and hopefully starting some conversations around accessibility! Exciting right! I'm excited!

As we are just starting out we are currently focused on 4 main regions. Vernon, Kelowna/West Kelowna, South Okanagan, and Lake Country! And looking at everything from where to stay, eat, play and shop! of course, we will also be looking into travel necessities like where to find rental of cars and equipment!

The Girl Behind the Computer ⬆️

We would like to Introduce Randi Pullar, our social media manager, site builder, and task manager! She does a lot around here and we are so grateful to have her!

She has always been passionate about matters of accessibility! She is also a Virtual Personal Trainer, focused on helping people of all abilities, stay active, and move in the best way for their bodies. (check her out )

Randi is not just our tech girl, but she is always lending her own feedback to help our visiting friends find low-impact activities suitable for people with chronic pain! She has dealt with joint pain for over 12 years and has become a connoisseur of comfort. She will be sharing which trails are gentle on the joints, which restaurants have the comfiest seats, and where all the best rest spots are along the way!

But is it ACCESSIBLE???

That’s what we are here to find out! We will be exploring Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon, and the South Okanagan. We will research places to Stay, Play, Eat and Shop!
