TRAVEL TIP:
One of the BEST (and fun) ways to really get to know a destination is to immerse yourself in it.

My favorite way to do that is to skip the hotels when I can and rent a flat for the time I am there.
These photos are from some of the awesome places I have stayed in. :)

I love feeling like a local, even if it is only for a short time! Many times it can be more economical than a hotel and you can plan to have a meal or two in your flat rather than going out to a restaurant. The flexibility is a wonderful feeling.

I LOVE the experience of shopping at the local grocery or market and discovering new foods and different version of familiar things from home.

So my advice when planning your next trip is to RENT THE FLAT! There are several great sources out there for renting and if you know what to look for you can score the one that is perfect for you.

Japan is a MUST SEE.

All seasons are lovely there, but Spring is glorious for partaking in Hanami which translates to “flower viewing” which is of course referring to the beautiful Cherry Blossoms! Fall is also a wonderful time to witness the gorgeous changing of the leaves which bring vibrant gold, red and orange to already breathtaking scenery.

I first visited Japan in 2003 and have been back 3 times since. I just adore Japan and am way overdue for a visit. Consider Japan for your next travel adventure and let Tailor Made Travel take you there!

I always feel so welcome when I visit and find something new and magical to experience every time. Makes it hard to want to come home hahahaha!

Welcome to Foodie Fridays!

I live by the practice that the BEST WAY to start to learn a culture is through it's food. I take every opportunity to try the local favorites and seek out the latest and greatest restaurants when I travel. It really helps to deepen your understanding of local life and you are introduced to marvelous new flavors and experiences!

I am excited to kick off the first post with a Dutch treat that really has become an obsession of mine...and brought a lot good natured teasing from my friends and family over the years 😊

Originating in the Netherlands, Stroopwafel translates to syrup waffle and gained popularity in the city of Gouda in the late 18th century. When you taste one it's easy to see why! They are made from two thinly pressed, buttery, waffle-like layers with delicious warm caramel syrup (stroop) ladled between. The outside is crispy with a lovely gooey center. The combination is heavenly. I love to buy one while I am out and about and take my time nibbling as I explore. It is also common to be served one in a
cafe with your coffee. When that happens, you MUST try placing it on top of your cup and let the steam warm it for you. Just delightful!
