Last Saturday's "Plant Walk" was a success although it was light on participants due to looming and forecast weather conditions. Given the option of cancelling the event and rescheduling to another date Andrea spoke up for the group stating, "Were not made of sugar!" Well the rest is history! None of us melted although we were a "little damp" by lunch time. All participants were troopers and I'm sure they all have stories to tell. "Plant Walks" for this season are coming to an end. The last 2 "Plant Walks" are scheduled for Saturday 24 August 2024 and Saturday 7 September 2024 respectively. This is the best time to book your walk because the bugs are almost nonexistent, the daytime temperatures are moderating, the majority of plants are at maturity, and offered at the sale price!! Despite hot temperatures yesterday's "Plant Walk" was an enjoyable adventure due to a small intimate enthusiastic group. They were all in for walking into remote sites where they were introduced to plants that were totally new to them in a "hands on" way. They showed up as clients and left as friends. Thanks for a great day!

Wondering why there have been no posts on "Come Walk with Me Skills and Adventures" page for months? Well here's the scoop. I was dealing with a medical issue which required major surgery followed by a lengthy period of recovery. I have now been medically cleared to return to my normal activities. As a result I will be offering a variety of events and activities from mid July to early October so stay tuned!! Also I would be interested in hearing any ideas you have for new events or activities you'd like to see offered on our "Events Calendar". Almost done for another season. October and November are months I take for my personal bush time and big game hunts. I'm guessing that many of you do the same. Due to the colder temperatures and unpredictable weather conditions at this time of year its more important than ever to be smart about your time in the bush. Plan and Prepare in Advance! Think about where your Base Camp will be - Drive to site or Back Country backpack into site? Remember this is your refuge and base of operation. It should be weather proof and warm. A place where you can warm up, dry off, eat, sleep, reset and plan for the next day. This can make or break your outing. Planning and Preparing in advance also applies to activities away from your Base Camp. Think about your gear needed for the activity and the support gear needed to operate in the environment you intend to operate in. Pack your day pack with the intention that you may have to spend the night in the bush. When considering items for your day pack consider these essential areas: First aid and essential personal meds., Navigational aids(map, compass, gps, etc.), Tools (knife, folding saw, chopping tool, sharpener, etc.), Life Essentials Fire, Shelter, Food, Water, (lighter, matches, tarp, bivy bag, mre's, water container and filter), Lights and Batteries(headlight, small flashlight, spare batteries) , Raingear and Warm Dry Clothing(in drybag), Heat Source (small portable one burner stove and fuel). Being smart also means recognizing your skill set and not going beyond your limitations putting yourself and others at risk. Also let someone know where you're going to be! Advise your route, start point and destination if you're backpacking to a destination. Be safe and enjoy your outings. Up for a Fall Adventure! Come Walk with Me Skills and Adventures is offering a "Bell Lake Kayak / Hike to Silver Peak" event on Saturday 16 September/23. This event starts with a leisurely Kayak in sea kayaks across scenic Bell Lake in Killarney Provincial Park to a trailhead to Silver Peak. Followed by a challenging hike to the top of Silver Peak. Once there you will be treated to spectacular views along with an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment.
