Did you know: Schomberg has starred in several movies! 🎥🎬

Arriving at the Presbyterian Church, we found out that the entire facade was upgraded some years back after a film crew blew out the stained glass windows and bowed the brick in a really intense explosion 🧱 💥

Sharing a few more photos of yesterday's Hidden Histories Jane's Walk! Some great conversations about Grackle's concrete facade, the flooding of Main Street during Hurricane Hazel which sent the lumber on the Rona property all the way down to Highway 9. Plus we learned how then-6-year-old Bill Foran was sent out by his mum the day after to take photos of the aftermath of the flooding – some of which can be found in the King Archives!

Good morning and welcome to our second year of hosting the "Hidden Histories" Jane's Walk in King Township! 🐾👣🏘️

Some quick housekeeping notes:

If you are attending "Hidden Histories", please arrive by 1pm at the Schomberg Public Library.

All the spots we have available for the tour are full, and we have a growing waitlist. If you are waitlisted, we will do our best to keep you updated in the next few hours in the event of cancellations, but there is no guarantee on your spot.

We're looking to expand our programming next year based on the positive response of people like you.

In the meantime, you can follow along our posts during and after the tour by searching .King and on Instagram. We do have activities available!

We are so pleased with the response to Part 2 of Hidden Histories! Please note that spots are now full, and a waitlist is now growing!

If you didn't manage to snag a spot, you've got three options:

1. Sign up for the waitlist at the event page on 🔗 JanesWalk-King.ca (link in bio)

2. Feel free to visit the Schomberg Community Hall, which is also our last stop of the tour! There will be refreshments and an exhibit of local artists featuring Main Street old and new, curated by King’s Heritage and Culture staff.

3. Consider becoming a 2025 Walk Leader! (our favourite option, of course). Jane's Walk is in it's second year and growing. With the success of the "Hidden Histories" event two years in a row, we're going to need more of you who are interested in building community and telling stories with us!

How Well Do You Know Schomberg's Hidden Histories & Local Legends?

Our highly successful “Hidden Histories” event returns for its 2nd year in a row! If you're new to this session, this is a free, community-led walking conversation about the neighbourhood you love, brought to you by local history buffs & citizen historians. Spend your afternoon talking about floods, fire, facades, & folklore along Schomberg's Main Street.

Meet King Township's Jane's Walk chapter (.King) at the Schomberg Library. Walking tour* to begin promptly at 1 P.M.

The Walk begins at the Library and ends at the Community Hall. Following the Walk, join us at the Community Hall for refreshments and an exhibit of local artists featuring Main Street old and new. The gallery will be curated by King’s Heritage and Culture staff.

Jane’s Walks can be led by anyone who wants to share with others what they believe makes their neighborhood, or King Township, a special place to live. If you've ever discussed local stories & issues in King Township with friends or family, why not bring your ideas to your neighbours through a Jane's Walk? 👣
