As announced by the Government of Canada, effective April 1, 2022 the pre-departure testing requirement for travel to Canada will be removed for fully vaccinated travellers.

This means that, beginning April 1st, fully vaccinated travellers five years of age and older will no longer be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test or Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) before travel to Canada.

Mandatory randomized on-arrival testing at Canadian airports will continue to be in effect. Fully vaccinated travellers entering Canada may undergo on-arrival testing if randomly selected and, if selected, will not be required to self-isolate while awaiting the test results.

Partially vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers will continue to be subject to mandatory testing on arrival, on day 8 and will still be required to quarantine for 14 days.

Note that the pre-departure testing requirement is still in effect for fully vaccinated travellers up to and including March 31, 2022. Travellers five years of age and older have the option to undergo a pre-departure Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) no more than one day before the scheduled flight departure or a pre-departure COVID-19 molecular test (e.g. a PCR test) within 72 hours of the scheduled flight departure. To prove a previous COVID-19 infection, travellers can provide a positive PCR test result taken at least 10 days and no longer than 180 days before entering Canada.

Beginning July 5 at 11:59 p.m. EDT fully vaccinated travellers who are currently able to enter Canada under the existing rules will be able to do so without having to self-isolate for 14 days, taking a test on day eight, or having to stay in a quarantine hotel upon arrival.

Such great news for the travel industry! Travellers who participate will receive a COVID-19 test upon entry into Canada before proceeding into quarantine. Once the test comes back negative, they will then be allowed to leave their place of quarantine so long as they commit to getting a second test between days six and seven at a community pharmacy participating in the pilot program.

Hawaii anyone?? Starting October 15, travellers visiting Hawaii can skip the islands mandatory quarantine upon arrival if they can provide a negative COVID-19 test result.

Travelers heading to Hawaii, who complete an FDA-approved nasal swab COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their flight arrival in Hawaii and are able to produce evidence of negative test results, will be eligible to forego the state’s 14-day quarantine instructions.

WestJet is announcing no-charge COVID-19 travel insurance coverage for eligible guests booking travel to Mexico, the Caribbean and European destinations including the United Kingdom.

For reservations made on or after September 18, 2020, any WestJet air-only reservation including WestJet Vacations bookings for travel to and from Mexico, the Caribbean (excluding the U.S.), Europe (including U.K.) and inbound to Canada will provide eligible guests no-charge COVID-19 travel insurance through new partner TuGo.

Coverage will be automatically applied at no additional charge to eligible guests at the time of purchase for travel until August 31, 2021 for up to 21 days. One-way travel reservations will also be eligible for coverage for up to seven days.
