When exploring mosques, it's important to respect the country's culture. That means modest attire—covering shoulders and knees and wearing a headscarf. During this trip, I always carried a scarf with me so I could cover up when needed!
Day 5 of our Viking Ocean Cruise in Crete turned out to be the absolute highlight of our journey.
Our adventure kicked off with a scenic drive through the heart of rural Crete, leading us to the ancient Minoan Palace of Phaistos. Perched atop a hill with views of the sprawling Messara plain, the well-preserved ruins transported us back in time to the Bronze Age.
After our archaeological exploration, we made our way to a family-run winery, where we sampled ancient Cretan varietals and modern wines.
Yet, the real highlight awaited us at the 19th-century farmhouse, lovingly restored to its former glory.
The food, prepared by his mama and brother, was simply out of this world! We love immersing ourselves in local culture, and this excursion offered by Viking was an incredible opportunity to do just that.
I’m now back from an incredible journey aboard the Viking Saturn from Istanbul to Athens, and let me tell you, it was fantastic! We kicked things off in style with premium business class flights direct from Toronto. Talk about starting off on the right foot! Arriving early in Istanbul allowed us to indulge in some extra sightseeing and steer clear of any potential delays. It's a travel hack I always recommend to my clients – arriving a day early for any cruise is a must!🥰
One of the first things we did was check out Istanbul's famed Spice Market... the smells, the tastes, and everything else. It's an experience like no other, but if you don't want to buy, avoid making eye contact!👀

Immersed in history and beauty at Istanbul's mosques! The Yeni Camii, also called the New Mosque, took over 60 years to build, starting in the late 1500s. Seriously stunning - photos don't do it justice! Then, I was captivated by the intricate tile work at the Rustem Pasha Mosque, built by the famed architect Mimar Sinan in the mid-1500s.
When visiting mosques, remember that respectful attire is customary for women. It's a small gesture that shows respect for the culture!

Happy International Women’s Day!! First a big shout out to my beautiful daughters who have inspired me every day over the last 30 years to become the woman/mother I am today! (And, yes, my son too but I’ll have to find a different day for his shout out! ) I did want to talk about the many women who have taught and inspired me over the years… there are just too many list!! But, I will take this opportunity to talk about two women I recently met in Antarctica, Hilde Falun Strom and Sunniva Sorby. These beautiful women are the Godmothers of the ship we sailed on, Hurtigruten’s Fridtjof Nansen. They were named godmothers because of their dedication to raising awareness about climate change and especially about how the polar regions have been affected. They are the first two women to overwinter by themselves (with their dog Ettra, cannot forget her!) in Svalbard. If you do not know Svalbard it is an archipelago in Norway, inside the Arctic circle. During their time spent in a tiny trappers cabin called “Bamsebu” with no heat or running water, they collected data for a group of international researchers studying climate change while engaging youth from around the world and building awareness. Their foundation, Hearts in the Ice has a global network of partners that inspires, educates and ignites action on pressing climate change issues. These are the two of the most inspiring women I’ve ever met and I feel very honoured to have spent time with them on our Antarctic Expedition. A huge shout out to them on this International Women’s Day along with all the other women making a difference to keep our world beautiful!
