Are you dreaming of an island?

If you’re considering adding an island to your kitchen remodel, there are some design points to consider.

As with many renovation projects, it’s all about location. Here are some key points to consider:
Can you open oven and refrigerator doors easily?
Can you move about the kitchen easily and comfortably?
Will this be prep space only, or for eating as well?

One of the easiest ways to determine what will be best for you is to mock one up from old cabinets or make temporary boxes using plywood (or similar material such as OSB).

After a few days you’ll have a better idea to determine the overall functionality, location, and final size desired based upon the space available to fit your needs. Don’t forget to consider how other household members use the space too! Once you have a clear idea on what an “island retreat” could mean for you, you can work more effectively with one of your contractors to get the kitchen space you’ve been dreaming of.

Spring cleaning time!
