A grief series for children?! YES!! Sandra writes lovely children's books that spread messages of kindness, acceptance, and love. I can't wait to see what this beautiful collection has in store! If you feel inclined please share this post in support of this series or make a donation to the Kickstarter to help fund it!

A lot of emotions run through children when they experience a death. Sometimes they are not familiar with the emotion enough to explain or describe it.

When you talk to a child about death make sure to express how you are feeling, so they can become familiar with the language and make it easier to express themselves.

The Feeling Empty book series will be books meant to get the conversation started. Stories that deal with loss, with emotions and with situations that children can connect to.

Please support this project and help get these books into the hands of children who need them.

"With each day, each embrace, each tear, and each new beginning; that deep love weighed down by the gravity of our loss begins to shed the heavy layers and settles into a more peaceful and gentle home in our hearts and our memories."

Take a moment for gratitude today. One breath at a time. Grief and gratitude can always flow together. 💕

Why do we wait until someone has died to talk openly about how much we love them? Consider taking some time to tell the people you care about just how much they mean to you.

Oh boy, I'm quite nervous, but so excited to be sharing this experience with such great women! Join me and Firefly Mediums on Facebook Live tonight to talk about grief, death, dying, and family through the pandemic.

The pandemic has disrupted life the way we knew it to be, but it has also affected death. On Monday Night at 7:30pm join Catherine and Janice as they welcome Jessica Doherty, Celebrant and Funeral Director to a special Live event. After working as a funeral director for over 10 years, Jessica was drawn to become celebrant. In 2015 she completed the Funeral Celebrant training with the Certified Celebrants Association of Canada. She believes that a funeral, memorial, graveside service or celebration of life is a fundamental part of our grief journey. Being with those who love us, sharing memories, and creating a space to walk through grief together is as essential for us as the ceremony is for the loved one we are remembering. We are discussing how this has changed in recent weeks and what is happening for family and friends when they lose someone.

Lean on your village.
No matter how big or small.
They will give you balance on the uneven ground you are walking, a map into the unknown, and light where there may be darkness.

A little about me

I began working in the funeral industry in 2003. Helping those who have lost a loved one quickly became something very dear to my heart. I graduated from Funeral Service Education at Humber College in 2005, received my funeral directors license the same year, and have worked in Hamilton ever since.

I love calling Hamilton home with my two children. We enjoy spending time outside either hiking, swimming, riding our bikes, geocaching or just enjoying the back yard.

After working as a funeral director for over 10 years, I felt drawn to become celebrant. In 2015 I completed the Funeral Celebrant training with the Certified Celebrants Association of Canada.

I believe that a funeral, memorial, graveside service or celebration of life is a fundamental part of our grief journey. Being with those who love us, sharing memories, and creating a space to walk through grief together is as essential for us as the ceremony is for the loved one we are remembering.
