I have found a great "sieidi stone" (Sami) which is a sacred place to bring offerings and gifts for the spirits of ancestors and animals who aid us upon our path in life.

Thunderbird medicine ways and nature teachings for well-being. My name is Tim Yearington and I am Métis. I am a seasoned outdoor guide and wilderness shaman. Thunderbird Mountain is located the picturesque Madawaska Highlands of Eastern Ontario. The view from the top is spectacular! Year-round I offer day-long guided walks up the trail I created myself to the rocky crest of Thunderbird Mountain. H
ere at the top exists an ancient, sacred site known as a "thunderbird nest". My unique tours teach you about the spiritual, shamanic purposes of a thunderbird nest. Made of stones, a thunderbird nest is a “place of power” people use when seeking answers through communion with the spirits of Nature, animals, ancestors and the Great Spirit. The “Thunderbird” or “Great Bird” is an avian, eagle-like manifestation of the Great Spirit. And this is why the thunderbird nest is utilized; to attain spiritual guidance "direct source" from Nature, to do personal healing work and to complete spiritual vision quests. At a thunderbird nest is where we can best find our own true nature, spirit and power – the Great Bird within us! On your adventure I share traditional thunderbird knowledge, medicine ways and teachings about the supernatural power of thunder, lightning and electricity. I tell thunderbird stories and legends. I enlighten you about the spiritual role of the human thunderbird – a shaman – connected to the thunderbird nest still used today for personal empowerment, transformation and healing. Atop Thunderbird Mountain you’ll explore: 1) the stone thunderbird nest, 2) the giant bedrock serpent who guards the nest, 3) the big stones in alignment with seasonal solstices and 4) the large boulders mirroring the Northern Cross or “Skeleton Bird” constellation. From these features it is believed Thunderbird Mountain may have been utilized by prehistoric shamans – thunderbirds – who once practiced ancient bird shamanism ways that originated in Siberia millennia ago. It’s all very fascinating! Thunderbird Mountain is a spectacular place with an awesome view at all times of the year. Nature is truly the best medicine to experience! Another great hike up to the top with my good friend Jean. The sunset was sweet and then it began to get dark fast. Today I hurt my knee, so going down was painful. Update: No more guided hikes for a while until my torn quadracep tendon heals up.

This is a thunderbird sky pole. It points "north" which is straight up skyward to the "North Star" or Polaris and the sacred "hole in the sky" that, long ago, was situated in the heart of the Skeleton Bird constellation also called Cygnus (the Swan) or the Northern Cross. Today the North Star or Polaris is just beyond the Great Caribou/Big Dipper constellation. With the aid of drumming the thunderbird shaman's spirit climbs the sky pole and departs upon a "spirit flight" high into the sky and beyond to the stars. Guided ever northward/skyward - by the sky pole pointing the way - we travel through the hole in the sky to the spirit realm of our ancestors. Christianity appropriated this ancient worldview by calling this bird constellation "The Northern Cross" and by calling the hole in the sky at the centre "heaven'. Through the hole in the sky we directly access the ancestors and all the loving wisdom they have to share with us. And in this way they, as spirits, can help us with our human reality and life on Earth. We still have so much to learn from them.
