HOW TO KNOW YOU’RE A TRAVELLER
(And not a vacationer)

1. You have the get to the airport routine down to military precision.
2. You weigh your bags (if you check any at all) before getting to the airport.
3. Budget travellers play “best seat” roulette
4. Points matter. To be fair I have not figured this one out completely.
5. You have a collection of SIM cards
6. You have a “cords case”
7. You like flying, personally I find it so enjoyable!
8. Delays, chaos and confusion are part of the experience at some point, and that’s ok.
9. You have a mini go bag always ready with comfort items, hygiene, entertainment and snacks
10. You write this all down and post on Facebook while waiting at your gate.

Based on this list, are you a traveller or vacationer?

We had THE BEST dinner tonight at Casita & Garden. Started with an espresso martini & a dirty martini with the crudite. The rose all day and pizzas!! The best pizza in Vallarta, folks!!

To top it off, in celebration of Women’s Day, this badass female entrepreneur and restaurateur had a a secret discount for gals on the town!!

Francie, thank you for providing delish food, amazing cocktails, empowerment and good vibes!!!

My morning has been spent discussing symptoms with my sicky friends, the qualities of Carolyn’s flu bombs and rearranging social activities!!

I have a wee chest cold but I’m already feeling a bit better! So I’m sharing her ingredients.

1 clove garlic munched
1/2 inch ginger minced
1/2 tsp cayenne
One lemon juiced
1tsp honey
Add echinacea, oregano or eucalyptus oils if you want!

And gulp it down!!

Mandy’s latest travel hack:

DO NOT TRAVEL WITH CHECKED BAGS

I vow to do carryon only, streamlined, not dependant on airlines keeping track of my bags…..

Leg 3 of my trip back. Window seat next to two young adults. The young man beside me treated me with such a helpful attitude. He unfolded my table, paid attention to my comfort in subtle ways, like he was there to be my guide…. I cannot explain it or why. We never spoke. He slept a lot. I didn’t. As usual. I was flying EVA air. The food is not great, the service is mediocre, the plane was older but comfortable enough.

But I made a pact with myself. No more coach class on packed planes for trips over 7 hours. At least premium economy. I’m just too uncomfortable for that many hours. My body get jittery and sore.

Leg 4 was 1.25 hours from YVR to YEG. I’m home!!!!!! Hallelujah!! My gorgeous hubs picked me up as he always does and I am always grateful for. The dogs went berserk and I got all the love 💗

Leg 2 into Taiwan is complete…..I wish I could stay a day or two to explore but I’m even more eager to board my flight to YVR.

I’m hastily googling some famous/traditional Taiwanese foods to grab at the airport. Best I can do!

Oh and downloading more episodes of The Crown and more pages of my book…..Me Before You.

Good morning!!

My friends, if you’re seeing this, maybe it’s a sign! I have only one room left for Camino Trail: Portugal to Spain 2024 and it will be SOLD
OUT!
I limit to max of 8 people so that we have a nice mix of togetherness but lots of opportunity for alone time, should you want it.
Walking the Camino to the cathedral in Spain is approx 270km up the coast from Porto, Portugal. There are a few hours of incline along the way but it is quite manageable for everyone. And we all go our own pace and have our own experiences. The beauty of it is, we meet at the same spot at the end of each day so there is always support should you need it, or if you have some to give to other pilgrims.
This is a mindful bit of travel. Some do it for the physical challenge of daily trekking, some for the meditative aspect, some for religious reasons ( as it is a cathedral we are headed towards) and some just to simply have a healthy holiday with plenty of walking, wine and seafood!

Whatever your reason, you’re welcome to join!

The physicality of it is not as difficult as you may think. And you can prepare ahead for the long walks, the sore feet, legs and the blisters!

Go check it out and message me!

Tips on food while travelling……from a travelling foodie. Let me preface all of this by saying (it’s a long post) that this is how I eat & my philosophy around travel and food.
Pic 1- eat something while you drink, moreover eat what locals eat while drinking. This little snack is smoked string cheese & water buffalo jerky
Pic 2- If you want to try everything, eat light! DO NOT FILL UP on carbs unless they’re the headliner! This is grilled fish handhelds with aromatics
Pic 3- Buy fresh fruit already peeled, sliced and diced. Have you ever tried to peel a pomelo?!?
Pic 4- In an “emergent” situation, cheap wine can be purchased at corner stores anywhere in the world. When you “need” a little taste of normal and it has been a s**t day…..go get your normal, be it red wine or a pizza or a FaceTime home. Or in my case, all 3.
Pic 5- Almost every country has really REALLY good food from other countries, it’s ok to go seek that out. Ramen in Bangkok? Pad thai in Toronto? Craft Beer in Saigon? Yes, go. Try. Side note, soup is never a bad choice. Pictures tan tan ramen
Pic 6- try the most traditional meal you can. You won’t find this in other places. Even if it’s gimmicky (but hopefully not) go get the authentic
Pic 7- let other people order, in fact encourage it. That might mean you need to go make a friend ;) and be pleasantly surprised. Pictures steamed fish with aromatics
Pic 8- make friends!! Dining alone is ok but sharing food is sharing a bit of your heart. And a cocktail usually makes it a little more jovial!!
Pic 9- eat your veggies. Some places are tricky. Raw veg in unclean conditions is not going to end well. If it doubt, get the stir fried the fermented the cooked!
When not in doubt, go fresh, raw and in season:) Pictured papaya salad & morning glory
Pic 10- eat a good meal, anywhere you can. Eat on the beach, from a cart, with linens, out of paper cups. Be adventurous as feels comfortable. This is where the magic happens. Pictures seafood curry & cucumber salad
