Did you know that the Danube River is the only river in the world that passes through 10 countries along its route. The Danube River is one of the most important and emblematic rivers in Europe. With a length of approximately 2,860 kilometers, it is the second longest river on the continent, after the Volga. It rises in the Black Forest of Germany, from the confluence of the Brigach and Breg rivers, and flows eastward through ten countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine, before to flow into the Black Sea through an extensive delta.
The Danube has great historical, cultural and economic significance. For centuries, it has been an important trade and transport route, connecting central Europe with the east and southeast. Its river basin covers densely populated areas, and along its course are several European capitals, such as Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade.
The river is also known for its biodiversity, particularly in its delta, which is a UNESCO protected site due to the rich variety of animal and plant species. However, over time, the Danube has faced environmental challenges such as pollution and the regulation of its waters for navigation and energy production. Credits: Curiosidades
