Did you know that the Danube River is the only river in the world that passes through 10 countries along its route. The Danube River is one of the most important and emblematic rivers in Europe. With a length of approximately 2,860 kilometers, it is the second longest river on the continent, after the Volga. It rises in the Black Forest of Germany, from the confluence of the Brigach and Breg rivers, and flows eastward through ten countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine, before to flow into the Black Sea through an extensive delta.
The Danube has great historical, cultural and economic significance. For centuries, it has been an important trade and transport route, connecting central Europe with the east and southeast. Its river basin covers densely populated areas, and along its course are several European capitals, such as Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade.
The river is also known for its biodiversity, particularly in its delta, which is a UNESCO protected site due to the rich variety of animal and plant species. However, over time, the Danube has faced environmental challenges such as pollution and the regulation of its waters for navigation and energy production. Credits: Curiosidades

Canada's magical stained lake.
In winter and spring, the lake located northwest of Osoyoos in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley looks like any other body of water. But as most of the water begins to evaporate in the summer, hundreds of huge salty ponds are left behind, leaving a landscape splattered with yellow, green and blue spots. They are aptly called Spotted Lake "the most magical place in Canada."
Colorful pools are the result of high concentration of minerals, including calcium, sodium sulfates, and magnesium sulfate, which have accumulated in the water.
Minerals and a collection of salts have drained from the surrounding hills. Different colors depend on the concentration of minerals in each pool.
Spotted Lake has been considered a sacred site for centuries by the indigenous peoples of the Okanagan Nation, according to the British Columbia Visitor Center.
They believed that each of the different circles had different healing and medicinal properties. The lake was originally known to the Okanagan Valley First Nations as Kliluk..
The land surrounding the water was privately owned for many years, but was acquired for the benefit and use of the Okanagan Nation in 2001.
The purchase ensured that the land would be protected from development and would be restored as a cultural and environmental site.
During WWI, the minerals from the lake were used to make ammunition. The minerals were collected by workers, who extracted up to a ton of salt from the lake every day.
According to the British Columbia Visitor Center, it is said that prior to this mineral extraction, the lake “showed an even greater variety of colors and even greater artistic beauty.”
