We hope that you are doing well. We are writing today with some welcome news for those who are eager to travel again. Over the past few weeks, the following has happened:

Canada has lifted the global ‘non-essential’ travel advisory for fully vaccinated Canadians

Mixed doses have now been accepted in the US, most of Europe & many destinations around the world

The US land border is opening to fully vaccinated Canadians on Nov 8

The Federal Covid-19 proof of vaccination has rolled out for most of Canada (BC is coming soon) which you will be able to download here( https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-covid-19-proof-vaccination/get-proof.htmling )once available.

We are also happy to report that pre-flight testing is getting easier and cheaper around the world. To make it easier for you we have compiled a list of Pre-Flight Testing Options (Antigen & PCR/RT-LAMP)

Self-administered tests can now be purchased through switchhealth.ca. The kits require an internet-connected mobile device with a camera. The pre-flight antigen tests are available (2 for $129 CAD) & RT-LAMP tests which are accepted for re-entry into Canada ($199 CAD). Aeroplan members receive a discounted rate as well through Switch Health for Aeroplan Members, the pre-flight antigen tests (2 for $79 CAD) & RT-LAMP tests ($149 CAD). We recommend ordering these.

In Canada, pre-flight testing can be done in some provinces at Life Labs and Shoppers Drug Mart. There are also several clinics with multiple locations including CVM Medical (which has a location at YVR that opens at 5:30am) & Rock Doc.

The Canadian tour operators and airlines have resources for their clients to find and book the pre-flight tests for re-entry to Canada on their websites. And, many airports have on-site labs which offer pre-flight testing. You can also do a Google search with your ‘DESTINATION + PCR test for travel’ and options should pop-up.

We are also recommending that All Canadians leaving the country should ensure they have proper travel insurance that covers Covid-19.

Take the Stress Out of Flying with Kids

If you are traveling with kids in tow, your carefree days of sipping in-flight champagne and throwing on that eye mask after takeoff are probably over for a few years. So with Spring Break right around the corner and many families traveling, I want to share a few tips to make your trip more enjoyable for everyone First, give everyone specific tasks so that you don’t end up with too many snacks and no passports. For example, you can be in charge of packing for yourself and the young kids.

Older kids can pack their own bags with you just reviewing what is layed out before it goes into the suitcase… and maybe your co-parent can be in charge of all travel documents & a travel medical kit.

If you’re heading somewhere where vaccinations are required, make sure you schedule them for at least one week prior to departure.
It is very common for little ones to end up with minor side effects that can be made a lot worse when they appear onboard an airplane.

If you are traveling as a single parent, don’t forget a letter of consent from the parent or guardian who is not traveling. You can find a template at Travel.gc.ca.

If your flight schedule includes a layover, opt for the longer option. This might seem odd because you probably just want to get the flight over with… but if you have younger kids that extra time gives them a chance to burn some energy and run around between flights. Hopefully, they’ll be tired out for the second leg of your journey and you won’t have the added stress of running to make connections.

I also recommend packing extras of everything in your carry-on, including clothes. Accidents happen when travelling, especially for young ones.

And finally, throw those strict at home rules out the window when it comes to screen time and treats for emergency bribes. Trust me you will want to try anything to keep them happy for the duration of the flight

UPDATE: Change fee waived for new bookings

WestJet is waiving the change fee for all new WestJet air-only and WestJet Vacations bookings (NEW) made from March 3 to March 17, 2020 for travel before June 24, 2020.

At this time, there are no travel restrictions to any of the destinations we fly. However, due to evolving travel concerns, we want your clients to continue to book with confidence with a relaxed change fee should they need to alter their travel plans.
