This past week teens experienced what this island has to offer on our Sayward Forest Canoeing Expedition Summer Camp. Youth travelled across lakes large and small, were challenged by portages (traveling from lake to lake), small, low-risk rivers and beaver. Like with most of WEA's programs, teens learn trip specific skills like canoe rescues, how to paddle, portaging, how to camp and cook. Along with soft skills like leadership, conflict resolution and other life skills.

Getting Youth Outside & Off Technology - GREATER VICTORIA BC

Cell phones, tablets and other technology is a real problem for our children. They struggle to make social connections, think for hemselves and spend time outdoors. Kids need to get outside and active. They need outdoor programs!

Take an 11-year old in our year-long leadership program. He started out like any other kid. He relied heavily on adults, had a limited capacity to manage adversity and was addicted to screens. Recently his leadership group completed the challenging 75km-long West Coast trail! The kids managed the entire trip without adult intervention. They woke themselves up, cooked meals, washed dishes, set-up camp, purified water, knew their location at all times just from reading a map, solved group dynamic problem & more. Experienced adults were there every step of the way, but they weren’t needed. This is how important the outdoors is for today’s youth!

WEA helps children ages 6-16 become successful adults. WEA does this by operating specialty outdoor adventure programs for youth (since 2017). Our programs include outdoor adventure day, overnight and multi-day wilderness expedition summer camps that challenge and build chilrden and youth’s confidence while geting them outside and active. We also offer other programs like our year-long leadership group and swimming lessons. WEA isn’t childcare, it’s essential life skills learning for today’s youth.

VANCOUVER ISLAND WILDERNESS SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH!

Come check out our day, 6-day overnight and expedition summer camps for youth ages 6-16!
