15 Units & Counting!! We are so proud of the team at Grow Assets Inc.

Two young gunners, our founders Reese Bobier and Matteo Vachon have been dominating the short term market since COVID hit back in 2019. Faced with challenges and the adversity of losing their first 4 properties due to Bylaw changes in the city and the restrictions the government placed on short term travel they were determined to adjust, adapt and thrive in a time where the majority of their competition sat on the fence and played the safe route.

Just a few short months after March 2020, they had their portfolio back up to 4 but they didn't stop there, they continued to push the limits of what most would think is impossible.

In the last few months of 2020 they set up 3 more units between October and December to bring their total unit count up to 7.

With momentum behind their backs, they continued to seek out opportunities and align strategic relationships to allow for continued company growth. At the start of 2021 they committed to 8 additional units, set them all up in February and provided luxury accommodations to families, businesses and more in a time where STR's were far and few.

If you haven't heard about them, you will.

This is just the beginning...

Lunch Time Talk w/ Grow Assets Inc. 🍻 🍕

The founders of Grow Assets are constantly in the works planning their next move, and they like to support local while they support their vision. Introducing "Lunch Time Talk" a post-series where the founders recap some of what goes on in their executive meetings.

We recently got invited to tour a hotel in that got converted to an apartment building, focusing on the short term rental aspect. This got us thinking more about how the industry is changing.

When the pandemic hit, hotel occupancy plummeted 72% while short term rentals on Airbnb fell approximately 46%. We started keeping a close eye on the type of travelers we noticed booking our units. It was clear things were changing.

We noticed the average length of stay increasing, more local travelers, and the reason for travel was changing too. Lots of home renovations, staycations, local business travel and things alike. In fact, an Airbnb report showed that the average length of stay ticked up 58% after the pandemic struck.

This has played a crucial role in how we adapted our marketing strategies and business development plans for the remainder of 2020 and leading into 2021 while times remain uncertain.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! 📢

Airbnb just put into effect their new 5 Step Enhance Cleaning Protocol.

If you own or operate a short-term rental then this is for you.

The 5-step cleaning process is a set of cleaning practices that all hosts are now required to follow between guest stays, in addition to their local laws and guidelines. The process is based on Airbnb’s cleaning handbook, which was developed in partnership with experts in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.

If you haven't already, you need to have a conversation with your cleaners and ensure they understand the steps they need to follow to ensure you don't have guests complaining and seeking a refund for something that could have been avoided.

ARE YOU LICENSED??

You may not be aware, but did you know that the City of Calgary Council approved changes to the Business Licence Bylaw to require a business licence and regulations for short term rental (STR) hosts in Calgary, which came into effect on February 1, 2020.

Depending on the size of your unit, how many bedrooms and so on there are different tiers of licenses depending on your situation. This is where our team at Grow Assets becomes valuable to you. We take care of all the legal work that no one wants to do but is necessary to run a successful STR.

We are actually in the process of obtaining a license for our newest unit in Calgary.

Great LRT access and this areas punches above its weight with about 270 shops and services. There are some cool historic buildings combined with modern architecture, but all in all, the feeling is of a small village. It has a cool and often whimsical take in the variety of shops and public art.
