Embrace Yukon declares that people of Yukon does indeed love basketball. In the territory there are three organized basketball leagues for adults: Yukon Men's Basketball League, Whitehorse Women Basketball League and Filipino Canadian Basketball League Yukon. And to top that off there are two additional, very active, youth leagues: Lynx Basketball which provides girls the opportunity to learn the sport and the Wolf Pack Basketball that has designed programs and camps for all youth between ages 5 and 18. Tim Brady, the Sport Yukon’s Hall of Fame inductee, is currently running Wolf Pack Basketball Development program and he’s definitely inspiring new generations with his passion for the sport and his expertise gained in his 25 years of coaching.
And there are people of Yukon that through the love of basketball connect not just neighbors, but whole Canada. Check out www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/toronto-raptors-whitehorse-yukon-jurassic-park-1.5169642 to learn more about Jurassic Park Takhini North and be amazed once again of the power of sport.

📜Yukonpedia:
“Indigenous” or “Aboriginal”?
Maybe some of us already have heard about both these words for the inhabitants of Canada but we don’t understand what is difference between these two terms?
Throwback to XIV century, when Christopher Columbus had landed to North America. He thought that he already came to India by going toward the west instead of the most popular route – East side. So Columbus had called the people who lived there “Indians”. Despite it became the incorrect collective noun. Initially “Indians” included First Nations, Inuit and Metis.
However the usage of the word Indian in Canada is decreasing due to its incorrect origin and connections to colonizer policies and departments. The term “Aboriginal” was born in order to correct collective noun for First Nations, Inuit and Métis and was accepted by government and many national groups. This distinction has been legal since 1982. According to section 35 of the Act states:
In this Act, "aboriginal peoples of Canada" includes the Indian, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada.
Aboriginal Peoples was a fresh step although there was resistance to its usage from some groups, as discussed in “Indigenous vs. Aboriginal”.

Fun Fact💡: The Highest Mountain in Canada is located in ... Yukon!!

Mount Logan (5959 meters)

It is as well the second-highest peak in North America, after Denali. The mountain was named after Sir William Edmond Logan, a Canadian geologist and founder of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC). Mount Logan is located within Kluane National Park Reserve in southwestern Yukon, less than 40 km north of the Yukon–Alaska border. Mount Logan is the source of the Hubbard and Logan glaciers. Logan is believed to have the largest base circumference of any non-volcanic mountain on Earth (many shield volcanoes are much larger in size and mass), including a massif with eleven peaks over 5,000 meters.
Temperatures are extremely low on and near Mount Logan. On the 5,000-metre-high plateau, air temperature hovers around −45 °C in the winter and reaches near freezing in summer with the median temperature for the year around −27 °C. Minimal snow melt leads to a significant ice cap, reaching almost 300 m in certain spots. A temperature of −77.5 °C was unofficially recorded on the summit on 26 May 1991.

One of the most important tourism goals is to promote local products and services to keep the money in the territory. This is exactly what Yukon Brewing is doing for over a decade! Refreshing draft beers that have the whole territory asking for more. Stop by their brewery in Whitehorse and try it for yourself🍻

OUR STORY We started small – basically two guys on a canoe trip, with a big idea . . . and a great home brew to fuel that idea! Learn More
