🍂 Celebrating Mi'kmaw History Month & Upcoming Events 🍂

As autumn paints Nova Scotia in vibrant colours, October gives us the opportunity to honour and learn from Mi'kmaw history and culture. Mawkina’masultinej – Let’s Learn Together!

✨ How to Participate This Month ✨

🛶 Experience History in the Making: Canoe Building at the DesBrisay Museum
This October, witness Mi’kmaw elder Todd Labrador and his daughter Melissa craft their 33rd birch bark canoe at the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater. Get an up-close look at their artistry and the deep cultural traditions surrounding canoe building.

This also marks Bridgewater's 125th anniversary, celebrating its connection to the Mi'kmaw people.

📅 Don't Miss the Canoe Launch!
Join us on November 2nd at 10 AM at Miller Point Peace Park to watch the newly built canoe make its first journey into the LaHave River! 🌊 All are welcome to this special event.

🔍 Behind-the-Scenes Saturdays at Queens County Museum
Ever wondered what happens behind museum doors? Explore the collections, exhibit choices, and untold stories at the Queens County Museum. Their focus this month is on quillwork pieces, revealing the people, stories, and histories they represent.

🏞️ At Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site
This year’s Mi'kmaw History Month theme, Mijipjewey Na Mawa’luksi’k – Food Gathers Us Together, highlights the importance of food in bringing communities together. Kejimkujik has long been a gathering place for feasts and council fires, connecting people through its rivers and tides to the Atlantic Coast and beyond.

💚 We can’t wait to hear more about the renovations at The Emerald Light!

💚 We can’t wait to hear more about the renovations at The Emerald Light!

We’ve come a long way. 💚

At The Emerald Light, we like to say that our problems are “good problems”—the kind that come from growth, from rising to meet increasing demand, and from elevated expectations. These are the problems we feel fortunate to face and solve.

Starting this Sunday, October 27th, we will be closing for a kitchen renovation and an upgrade to our POS system. This is an exciting chapter for us, one we’ve been able to embark on because of you—your reviews, kind words, critiques, and suggestions. Your support has allowed us to reinvest in our team and tools, with the goal of enhancing your experience in every way possible.

With these renovations, we aim to streamline our kitchen processes so we can serve you faster, introduce new offerings with the help of additional appliances, and provide more attention and care throughout your entire visit. We can’t put into words how thrilled we are to step into this new era, and we sincerely hope it shines through when we welcome you back.

I don’t know when we’ll be reopening. This will take longer than a week. Hopefully not two. But we will take the time required to get things right. Just keep an eye here for when we announce we’re ready to show you what’s next as we continue to grow in this community where, together, anything feels possible.

📣 WOODLAND GARDENS FULLY RE-OPENED
We're excited to share with the community that the Hemlock Conservation Team (pictured) has wrapped up its work treating Hemlock trees in Woodland Gardens to protect them against the invasive Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA).

Thank you to the community and to Woodland Gardens users in particular for abiding by signage during work and for showing patience and understanding while this important work was taking place.

For more information on the Town of Bridgewater's ongoing Hemlock conservation program, you can visit www.bridgewater.ca/HWA.
