City of Langford 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼 Re:BC ❇️ welcome to the team

A first in Canada, Langford uses a unique district energy system in one of it's neighbourhoods, Westhills. 〰️ Tapping into geothermal energy, the system uses a waste-heat recovery system to heat and cool City Centre Park AND power hundreds of homes in Westhills.

Prioritizing environmentally-conscious development is just one of the reasons we're happy to partner with Langford.

Langford is located on the traditional territories of various Coast Salish communities including Xwsepsum (Esquimalt), Lekwungen (Songhees), Scia’new (Beecher Bay) and WŚANEĆ First Nations. Indigenous communities whose reciprocal and respectful relationship to these lands have continued since time immemorial.

Sun Peak's Month of Giving raised a total of 💸 $30,000! 💸

The community came together to raise $18,000 and the remaining $12,000 from Tourism Sun Peaks was divided equally between the 10 participating non-profits.

This money is contributing to tangible benefits for the Sun Peaks community, here are a few examples: Adaptive Sports Sun Peaks is adding a new model of sit skis to their fleet, while Sun Peaks Alpine Club is giving their roof a much-needed upgrade. Sun Peaks Bear Aware is going to complete their bear hazard assessment and provide educational resources to the community with a market display booth and staff presentations.

This is the power of community. A very big thank you goes out to everyone who participated in this heart-warming initiative ❤️

All over BC, people (and eagles) are flocking to rivers to witness the natural marvel, the salmon run. 🦅

The combination of salmon returning to the rivers to complete their lifecycle and the influx of feasting eagles draws thousands of spectators all over BC.

⚠️ It’s important to be an ethical eagle (and salmon) observer to ensure these species come back year after year.

🗒️ Here are some tips from the BC Bird Trail - Field Notes: Bald Eagle Encounters along the Squamish River:

- Keep your distance: Don’t approach an eagle if you see feeding on the shore. Avoid stepping in the water so you don’t disturb the salmon.
- Do not use drones: Use binoculars or telephoto lenses to get a closer look
- Stay on the dikes: Please don’t walk on the gravel bars or private land
- Keep dogs on a leash: Do not let dogs chase wildlife. It might be best to leave them at home for this adventure.
- Be bear aware. Especially if you’re in remote areas, it’s important to be prepared for a bear encounter.

Regenerative travel means dispersing the burden 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽

It is no secret that British Columbia is home to spectacular nature, there is however a price to be paid for human presence. By exploring the path less travelled, planning trips for off-peak seasons and embracing alternative transportation, we can lighten the load on these special places.
