We put our tourism operator hats on this weekend moving all of our own stuff out of our home/cottage and doing a full, deep clean in preparation for our first tourists of the season.

It’s an awful lot of work but it sure does feel good when it’s done and when the tourists are so happy with the space … it’s kind of like cleaning for visitors but on steroids.

Don’t ask me what the RV looks like or where we crammed all of our stuff… that’s a whole other kettle of fish 😆

Startup Zone in Charlottetown recently hosted a lovely tourism roundtable that gave trippl an opportunity to hear from local tourism stakeholders.

It also gave us all an opportunity to get some reframing guidance from Katie Muldrew with Collective Knot.

Katie instructed us all to draw a duck and then post it on the wall, and as you can see that's what we did.

No two ducks look the same but they are clearly all ducks.

We all perceive the same situation through our own filters and we also all describe that situation in our own unique way. But it is still the same situation that we are all experiencing ... together.

This was a very elegant way for us all to be reminded that taking a moment to understand our differences can help us to gain a new appreciation.

Very recently I had a conversation with new business advisor and one small thing he said ... I think it may just have been the way that he asked a question ... helped me to reframe the way I was perceiving things in a profoundly positive way.

Remember, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, even if doesn't really look like a duck it may still have something very valuable to say .😎

Had a great time hanging out with these fine people on Tuesday night at the Valley Regional Enterprise Network tourism funding announcement at the Old Orchard Inn . James Clouthier and his team really pulled out all the stops.

I have been on regular zoom calls with Jennifer Nicholls for the last 6 months but this is the first time we have actually met in person ... looking forward to hanging with her for a week in Atlanta!

🧐 Do you know the secret weapon travel brands are using to supercharge their marketing? It's first-party data - the digital crumbs you leave behind as you dream and plan trips online.

Travel companies are getting smarter about collecting and connecting the dots on all the interests and preferences you share across websites, apps, and social media. And with that valuable first-party data, they can serve you way more personalized, relevant trip recommendations and offers.

But what if Destinations could tap into this treasure trove of consumer insights too? I wrote a blog post that explains how Destinations can start gathering rich first-party data by creating "sticky" online experiences that encourage trip planning and booking right on their website.

It also explores the power of combining first-party data with other sources to get an incredibly clear picture of their marketing impact and better plan future campaigns.

Want to unlock the potential of first-party data for your Destination marketing? Give this a read:

🎵 Ever wondered how Spotify knows exactly what music you'll love? The secret lies in their genius personalization engine!

From custom playlists tailored to your tastes to social sharing with friends, Spotify pulls out all the stops to curate a unique listening experience for each user. Their algorithms analyze your habits, likes, and history to generate personalized playlists like Discover Weekly, surfacing new artists you're bound to enjoy.

But it's not just about the tech - Spotify's personalization fosters connections too. You can collaborate on playlists with others, see what your friends are jamming to, and even get recommendations based on their activity. Talk about a musical social network!

Want to learn how tourism Destinations can apply the same strategies to their own websites? Give the full blog post a read:

😲 Do you know what kind of data is becoming the most valuable for destinations?

First-party data - information collected directly from website visitors - is a game-changer in the world of Destination marketing.

As privacy regulations tighten and cookie tracking declines, first-party data allows for unmatched precision targeting, personalized visitor experiences, and powerful predictive analytics. 🎯

Industry giants like Netflix and Amazon have built empires by leveraging this proprietary data. Now destinations can follow suit to truly understand and cater to their visitors.

So, the question becomes, how can Destinations gather deeper first-party data on their site visitors?

Here is our CEO Shelley Montreuil hanging out with Braevr Media CEO, Lydia Sayeau at last week's Coastal Nova Scotia Shake up Winter conference.

BRAEVR is doing some pretty fun things with images and video for VR ... also, Shelley's hair matches their branding so we think she needs to start working as their demo sidekick.

We hit the road on Thursday morning for the Coastal Nova Scotia Shake up Winter conference and just had to stop for breakfast at Kensington's newest breakfast (& lunch) joint ... Ruby's Counter.

Maureen Adams got a really fun quesadilla and I pulled something from the 'on the go' fridge.

Check them out, their food and their staff are awesome!

We enjoyed catching up with the team in Saint John at Four Eyes Financial. Even though the Minister of Rural Economic Development couldn't be there in person she still delivered a heartfelt message remotely and had some very encouraging stats to share, including the fact that 53% of the companies that Propel serves have a woman or woman-identifying individual on the founding team.

We are proud to be a 100% female-founder team and also to be a Propel company ... Go team Propel!

The Power of Saying Yes ✅💯

How can one word, just three letters, have any kind of real power?
For me it is the difference between having a positive attitude towards my surroundings and having a negative one.

I am going to write a full article about this topic soon but for now I will share my most recent yes experience…

We found out, last minute, about a tourism conference happening in Las Vegas – it ticked all of our boxes, so we said YES. We redeemed our air miles and booked a flight & accommodation for me. We are still pre-money so every trip requires a major decision and detailed planning in order to be both frugal and effective.

Because of points redemption I unexpectedly found myself a little out of my comfort zone in business class.

Enter Karl who was flying home from Charlottetown to Las Vegas after running a marathon on PEI. Karl saw that I needed a little direction, stepped in and we became fast friends. So much so that he and his partner hosted me for a meal and general company while I hung out in Vegas and navigated my conference.

Karl & Mark opened their home to me, introduce me to their friends, made me feel comfortable and showed me parts of Vegas I would not have experienced on this short trip if I had not been open and said Yes both to the trip and to his company on the plane.
I now have some true friends in a place I have never been before but I will surely visit again.

And that, is the power of yes. ✅ 💪

The CrowdRiff SEE conference was a fantastic experience ... the team put a lot of energy into providing high quality, local experiences including a whole range of indigenous dancers during the first evening welcome session. The black light on the dancers really elevated the performance.
