So excited! I just received my final travel documents from Quark Expeditions for my upcoming expedition sailing to Svalbard! I’ll be travelling with Quark on their “Spitsbergen Explorer: Wildlife Capital of the Arctic” itinerary from May 28th to June 8th.

Ephesus, Turkey (Türkiye) 🇹🇷 Our second stop on our shore excursion with Seabourn in Kusadasi was to the ancient city of Ephesus.

It was so fascinating walking around this open air museum, which they’re still doing active archeological work to discover, restore and reconstruct Ephesus. They say they’ve only discovered around ten percent of the city so far.

I absolutely loved my first day exploring Turkey and especially Ephesus! Have you been to Turkey (Türkiye) yet?

Kusadasi, Turkey (Türkiye) 🇹🇷 Our first stop on our shore excursion with Seabourn in Kusadasi was to we visit the House of the Virgin Mary. Located on a hill above Ephesus, here, it was believed that Mary, Jesus’ Mother had lived out the final days of her life. Three Popes have visited the site and the small home is now a quaint chapel.

My Veranda Suite onboard the Seabourn Encore. Did you know that even a “lead in suite” on the Seabourn Encore looks just like this?

The categories on the Veranda Suites on the Seabourn Encore and the Ovation (the Encore’s sister ship) depend on ship location, but most look identical to this with perhaps a few layout variations (you can request one bed or two twins and suites might have the bed on the opposite wall, however the sitting area is always near the balcony).

Arles, France 🇫🇷 I experienced an amazing walking tour of this historic city with Ama Waterways on my Essence of Burgundy and Provence River Cruise.

We started in the early afternoon and got to see all the main sights, including the famous Roman Amphitheatre, the Hôtel-Dieu and the charming Old Town. The weather was perfect and the views were stunning.

Vincent Van Gogh spent some time at the Hôtel-Dieu in Arles. In December 1888, he checked himself into the hospital after experiencing a mental breakdown, following an argument with his friend and fellow artist, Paul Gauguin. During his stay, he painted several works that were inspired by the hospital, including "The Courtyard of the Hospital at Arles" and "View of the Asylum and Chapel of Saint-Paul de Mausole." These paintings are considered some of his most iconic works.

I can't wait to come back and explore more of Arles. It’s a true gem in France!

Lyon, France 🇫🇷

I loved visiting Lyon. That’s the beautiful thing about a river cruise through Europe, you get a taste of some of these amazing cities that you can pick and choose where you would like to visit again and spend more time.

Lyon for me was one of those places. From quaint Lyonnaise Bouchons to the historical area of “Old Lyon”, I would come back and spend a few days here exploring more in depth in a heart beat.

During our afternoon tour, we visited Oingt (pronounced similar to “wh-aa”), which is a medieval village located on the hill top in the stunning Beaujolais region of France.

In this episode we are onboard the AmaWaterways AmaCello for our river cruise through Burgundy and Provence in Macon.

For our morning excursion we visit the Cluny Abbey.

In the afternoon during our wine excursion we visit the medieval, hilltop village of Oingt in the Beaujolais region of France. We finish our tour with a wine tour and tasting at a family owned and operated vineyard overlooking Oingt.

Later in the evening we had a seven course dinner at AmaWaterways The Chef’s Table onboard the AmaCello and enjoyed a night-time sailing into Lyon.

Chateau De La Greffiere, France 🇫🇷 For our afternoon excursion on Day 3 of our Essence of Burgundy and Provence river cruise with AmaWaterways, we chose an included “Mâconnais Wine Tour”.

During our wine excursion we visit the vineyards of the family owned and operated, Chateau De La Greffiere for a tour of their vineyards, production and a tasting.

It was such a picturesque setting, with our wine tasting taking place in one of their cellars.

Chateau de Brancion, France 🇫🇷 For our morning excursion on Day 3 of our Essence of Burgundy and Provence river cruise with AmaWaterways, we chose to visit “Medieval Brancion”.

Brancion Castle or Chateau de Brancion dates back to the middle ages. The castle was built in the 12th century with some of the buildings dating back to the 11th century. It was so wonderful to explore this village on the hill. One of the towers has been restored, so if you do climb to the top, you’ll have a wonderful 360 degree view from the top.

For our morning excursion we visit Brancion Castle or Chateau de Brancion dates back to the middle ages. The castle was built in the 12th century with some of the buildings dating back to the 11th century.

In the afternoon during our wine excursion we visit the vineyards of the Chateau De La Greffiere for a tour and a tasting. We then continued through the famous Poilly-Fuisse vineyards to the Rock of Solutre.

Dijon, France 🇫🇷

This was my first time really experiencing France outside of Paris and I absolutely loved it. The culinary gems that Dijon and the Burgundy region offers was mind blowing, two days exploring was not enough and it’s on my list of places I need to come back and explore more.

Norway and the Norwegian Fjords has been a popular request the last couple of weeks.
