Check out this captivating video featuring an iconic aircraft, the De Havilland DH.100 Vampire, in action.
In this footage from 2017, the Vampire takes off, dramatically tearing up parts of the runway surface with its powerful jet blast. Captured at an air show in Halfpenny Green, UK, this moment shows the impressive yet intimidating force of the British World War II-era jet fighter. The runway, likely not built to handle such power, sheds chunks of asphalt under the jet’s intense pressure.
Luckily, there were no major consequences, although the debris could have potentially damaged the aircraft's tail assembly, positioned well behind the exhaust.
The DH.100 Vampire first flew on September 20, 1943, joining the Royal Air Force as its second jet-powered fighter. Serving from 1945 to 1955, around 4,400 units were produced in 20 different variants.
