Congratulations to the Polar Bear Riders Snowmobile Club!

Our team at Polar Bear Riders received the “Not for Profit” business award tonight from the Cochrane Board of Trade. Thanks for the recognition.

He then became one of the founding members of the White Water Sno-Goers Club and is still an active volunteer. Terry and wife Diane have been riding together for over 50 years and have made it a wonderful family affair with their children and grandchildren.

Makaila has loved snowmobiling in Ontario her entire life and now shares that with others as a volunteer with the Opeongo Snowbirds Snowmobile Club! So much so that she introduced her husband, Keegan, into the snowmobiling world which he has been hooked on for the past 10 years. They both love volunteering, with Keegan helping out with club BBQs, and maintaining the groomer shed while Makaila remains dedicated to her new position of Volunteer Coordinator. They both aspire to be involved at a district level one day and although they sometimes have different opinions on things, volunteering together allows them to work on improving their communication skills – an added bonus!

Dorothy was first introduced to snowmobiling at the age of 13, when Santa gifted her and her brother an Alouette snowmobile – that’s the sled with square wheels! Fast forward some years down the road, Dorothy has raised her kids to join her in her passion and always made sure to have a sled for the entire family.

We came across Eric and Liane’s story on the popular 705 Snowmobiles group on Facebook recently and couldn’t resist sharing their epic experience on Ontario trails. Knowing he only had a short time to act, Eric pulled out all the stops to pull off a most memorable proposal. He even reached out to Polar Bear Riders to let them in on the secret proposal.

Eric first introduced Liane to snowmobiling 2 years ago when they took their first big trip to the Northern Corridor and first saw the Calhoun Fire Tower on L105. Since then, Liane has been hooked and they have enjoyed riding together ever since.

Please join us in wishing them all the best in their future together, one we trust will be filled with rides on Ontario snowmobile trails each winter.

BREAKING NEWS – In place of stickers, permits to be hot branded on all riders starting next season. The concept was inspired by the hit TV series Yellowstone and is expected to save riders and the OFSC time and money!

“The OFSC” is comprised of 182 community snowmobile clubs who collectively provide 30,000 kilometres of what are officially called “OFSC Prescribed Snowmobile Trails”. These member clubs are only able to deliver trails because of the hard work and dedicated efforts of their volunteers and the cooperation and generosity of local landowners who grant permission for organized trails on their property. Without volunteers and landowners, none of us would have OFSC snowmobile trails to enjoy. So how can we possibly thank them enough for what they contribute, especially after a winter as challenging as this one was? The plain fact is that we probably can’t thank them enough, but we sure can try. That’s why, as this season draws to a close, the OFSC is releasing a Volunteer/Landowner Appreciation Public Service Announcement (PSA) on many radio stations across the province and on social media, starting this weekend and through to the end of the month. It’s a small token of our gratitude and respect for these amazing people who give us so much, and you can help – please share this PSA (click on image to hear message), along with your own message of thanks, on your own social media with all your snowmobiling companions and other friends. And at every opportunity, reach out to give a personal “thank you” to any volunteer or landowner you happen to meet. Wouldn’t it be awesome if everywhere they look, our volunteers and landowners received our messages of gratitude over and over again? Together, we have the power to make this appreciation happen, so let’s do it now!

Following many social media reports from clubs and snowmobilers about ATVs and Side by Sides tearing up the soft snow on OFSC Prescribed Trails last weekend, the OFSC has mounted a radio campaign to re-enforce the Ontario Federation of All Terrain Vehicle Clubs (OFATV) message included here, reminding owners of these machines to stay off our trails and respect our landowners by never riding on private property at any time. As the OFATV says, “OFATV Trails are for ATVs and OFSC Trails are for snowmobiles. We leave our tracks all summer; let the snowmobilers leave theirs in winter.” We all have lots more work to do on this problem, but at least the message is being heard on the public airwaves.
