We've just come across an idea to help support the people of Ukraine. People around the world are starting to book Airbnbs in different cities in the country—check to make sure they are being managed by individuals and not a larger company. Airbnb will take their commission, yes, but so will many organizations that collect donations at large. If you book the soonest available dates it helps to get the money directly to the host as soon as possible.

Here are some words from a recent contributor that inspired us to book:

"I want to get money directly to the people, and quickly! It cost less than a typical trip to Target or Costco. 😭🇺🇦🙏

I booked the soonest available dates, that helps the host get paid faster. I’m chatting with them now. They are so grateful. I’ve booked two rooms. One is being used to host volunteers for the war effort and the other cannot rent their room because of damage, they are living in the basement. They can feel the love and support from Canada they said.

WE'RE STILL OPEN! In regards to COVID 19, to-date in 2020 we have not hosted any international travellers and currently have no upcoming bookings from guests outside of Atlantic Canada. All of our guests this year have been from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We are still operating as usual and accepting bookings if you need to escape your quarantine for a few days! In between bookings our cottages are cleaned top to bottom and all surfaces are being disinfected.

Stay safe everyone. You don't have to go far to get away ;)

This weekend we did a quick little DIY upgrade to the living room at Far Far Away Guesthouse ! We got rid of the hutch and installed this sleek little electric fireplace and collection of antiques and local art by Barbara McLean Paintings and Melissa Townsend Art !

So here is the not-so-glamourous side of homeownership and managing properties.

If you've ever owned a 100-year-old home you'll know they're feisty and full of quirks. It took me a LONG time to figure out why I was getting random smells of septic—we tried EVERYthing.

Long story short, Over The Way Cottage, the wax seal under the toilet had failed and the air vent attached to the septic was blocked over time with rust and debris (it's original to the house and made of cast iron). So the only space the septic had to vent was around the base of the toilet. 🤢

The original plumbing, in the house, was cast iron (see the first pic). I spent the day under the floor removing replacing it with PVC—and yes, the space is smaller than it appears, ha.

Dad was a great assistant. Now that he's become claustrophobic, I'm the one that scurries below the floorboards.

You have NO idea how happy this completed project makes me feel. See the pics below for some glam-glam before and afters. ha.
