Costa Rica .... oh sweet Costa Rica!

It holds a special place in my heart. It was the location of our destination wedding, where my family and James' got to know each other, where we introduced my son to backpacking, where I realized a bee at my wedding was just a fun and funny part of this new adventure.

Lately I have been working in "Costa Rica", it seems to have a lot of interest. And rightly so! Something for everyone, of all ages.

Costa Rica is a land of volcanoes, rainforests and cloud forests, huge waterfalls and mighty rivers. This abundant natural setting makes it difficult to decide between the various activities it offers, which include rafting, windsurfing, diving, kayaking, recreational fishing and surfing.

OR the unique black sand beaches!

Travel Tip Tuesday

Join a social media group that is centered around the area you are visiting, the resort, festival, hike, etc. They can be super helpful, you can ask questions and usually get a an answer from someone who has been there done that.

For example I joined 2 for our Camino hike, a few months in advance and picked up tips on where to eat, sleep and find the cheapest glass of wine!

I'm adding this to my bucket list! Next Spring anyone?!?

Each spring, as the memories of winter drizzle fade, visitors to Vancouver, B.C., are enchanted by one of the season’s most magical sites: 43,000 cherry trees bursting into bloom. With the sea and mountains as a backdrop, the pink and white blossoms are the star of the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (VCBF). The three-week festival attracts sightseers from dozens of countries around the world; all who hope to create a dazzling Instagram story or gorgeous portrait.

I am not a "cruiser" but I have been eyeing up Virgin, have you cruised with Virgin YET?

Why has it caught my eye?

Well to start ~ It’s exclusively adult — no kids allowed.

What else is so unique? Everything! From the vibe to the crew to the nightlife, it’s a totally new concept for cruising. All food is cooked to order with edgy cuisine like Korean BBQ, handmade pasta, bento boxes and more. Their Lady Ships spend extended time in port allowing Sailors to enjoy the evening in town. Guests sailing from Barcelona can enjoy overnight stays in Ibiza, Spain. Caribbean guests get a longer day at their private retreat in the Bahamas, known as the Beach Club at Bimini.

Travel Tip Tuesday!

Planning your budget carefully!

When planning we often forget all the little things, which can add up! Thinking and planning ahead takes the unwanted surprises out of your holiday ~ there is nothing worse than getting home and realizing you over spent, a lot!

Think before expenses like flights, tour / cruise cost, car rental, VISA’s, shots, meds, luggage and gear, etc.

Think of expenses while on holiday like getting to & from airports, train stations, bus stations. Activities and entrance fees, accommodations, eating out more often than usual, and drinking more often than normal.

Remember to have a back up of emergency funds.

And, very important, out of country emergency medical coverage and cancellation and interruption insurance.

Working with an experience travel advisor (like me) can take the guess work out, and save any unwanted surprises!

I absolutely fell in love with Adelaide! I could happily return, I could even more happily move there lol

We stayed just outside the center, in a lovely neighborhood, had meat pies for dinner from a local bakery and stumbled upon a fun pub trivia. It was more about settling in, relaxing, and soaking up the homey vibes.

The bustling city of Adelaide is brimming with events that excite, restaurants that inspire and beaches that make you feel at ease. What’s more, Adelaide sits right at the foot of three incredible wine regions that produce both world-renowned and under-the-radar wines. So when you visit, make sure you leave enough time to experience the city and explore its stunning surrounds.

Sicily keeps popping up; maybe I should take a hint and just go visit lol

There are so many beautiful beaches in Sicily, you could spend the whole trip just exploring the coastline. Between limpid, shimmering coloured waters, postcard views and natural wonders, the Sicilian sea offers emotions.

I am not a fan of printing just to print, but OMG just print your boarding passes (if you can).

The lines move so much slower now because everyone has to open cell, play with it, find boarding pass and then scan .... I breeze right through as I scan my printed boarding pass!

PS ~ I then use it as scrap paper!

Travel Tip Tuesday!

A fun, but post everyone should read before flying ~ from our friends at G Adventures

Ahhhh, air travel. ✈️ Hundreds of humans crammed into a metal tube that’s hurtling through the air 30,000 ft. up. Sounds fun, right?! 😅 We’re here to keep it that way.

Got your own airplane etiquette tip to share? Drop a comment and let us know!

I'd ask to consider overly smelly lunches and too much perfume or cologne!

Travel Tip Tuesday!

I just spent a lovely week in Cozumel with friends, and managed to sneak in a few dives.

Usually I like the ease (I'm pretty lazy on holiday) of diving with the on site dive shop BUT usually check who it is and who else in the area. Against my better judgement I choose to stick with the resort shop, and NOT do the 30 minute cab ride to one of my favorite dive shops, Dressel's ~ for ONE DAY ONLY. Then switched to Dressel.

DIVE TRAVEL TIP ~ among others things, the other shop had a bottom time max of 40 minutes. FOURTY MINUTES ~ I never, ever, thought to check that as the rest of the island is 60. And didn't realize until sitting on the boat!

So please, my fellow divers ~ start asking ~ What is your max bottom time!

Nothing has been decided yet, but the top contender for fall 2025 is Scotland with Royal Irish Tours.
https://ritvacations.com/scotland/

At the moment they offer smaller group tours, “Sightseeing Tours” through another supplier who does more budget, less inclusive itineraries than RIT’s tours. The other supplier also stay in a mix of B&B’s and 3* hotels, often spreading the group over a few in any given city. All great; and I may consider one, but for most of my groups we like to upgrade a little ;)

But, (drum roll please) RIT is about to roll out their own small group (8 - 16), with the same RIT level of accommodations, inclusions and service. If the rates are on par with their other tours, I am pretty sure will they be my top choice. Exciting, as we can, if we want, customize a little as well.

As nothing has been decided, I am not looking for any commitments. I would, though, love your feedback on Scotland as Where2Now’s Fall 2025 Group Adventure, and if you are interested in joining, or hearing more about it.

I am looking at late September to early October 2025.
7 – 10 nights on tour, with a few pre or post to round it out to about 2 weeks total.
I’d aim for 10 – 12 people, maybe 14 but the group could fill to the 16 person max.

I have a call scheduled with RIT late June (about a week before the new tours will be published) and hope to have an idea on interest and maybe even be ready to block space! Getting in early means we will have more choices and (fingers crossed) any and all new release and Early Booking Bonus’ they are offering.

If you have questions, or would like to continue to be part of the Where2now Scotland 2025 Group Adventure conversation please just contract me.

Cheers,
Susan
