Kesa Cares Pet Services My goal is to provide exceptional care, love and service to pets and their parents, utilizing my 25+ years of experience as an Animal Health Technician.
(10)

I cannot remember a time when I did not own pets. Over the years these have included dogs, cats, horses, chickens, ducks, pigeons, rabbits, guinea pigs, lambs, mice, rats, a racoon (rescued and raised until release), a caiman (alligator type reptile), garter snakes, turtles, salamanders and frogs as well as goldfish. I enjoyed everyone. It was through these experiences that I decided to become an

Animal Health Technician and have worked in many facets of animal care, including veterinary hospitals and an exotic animal farm. I have been asked where the name of my business came from. The Ke is from Kelsey, a Border Collie I rescued from a pet store who was the WORST dog I had ever owned, but became a great one after some serious remedial work, and Sa from Sara, the dog I currently have, the world's BEST dog,(and my Pet Therapy partner). Cares and Pet Services is self explanatory as professional quality care is our mandate. So, as you can see pets are a part of who I am. I love them and I love developing relationships with their owners based on quality pet care and service. If I can help you meet your needs I do so with honesty, and integrity to the best of my ability, utilizing my education and years of experience.

This is what I have been saying for years. For some reason I don't understand, we will rescue animals from overseas and the US, but not our own animals here in Canada.

Why is this???

We are begging you Canada to see thru our eyes.
This is your Canada.
At 1:00am, people are up, far up north helping homeless dogs.
Manitoba is dealing with a dog and cat population crisis not only in the North but throughout Manitoba.
Manitoba's Foster based rescues get zero support or financial support from the Province. Manitoba's Foster based rescues get zero support for helping emergency evacuated pets.
ZERO.
We don't get to walk away at 5:00 p.m. when our paid work day is done, because it doesn't exist for us.
Manitoba is dealing with a population crisis of cats and dogs.
Big ones, small ones, sick ones, injured ones, banned breeds, and homeless ones.
Before you buy from a backyard breeder in Southern Manitoba, before you buy from an unregistered puppy mill, we want you to think of these people out there at at 1:00am doing what they can to help homeless animals in need.
These are the heroes of rescue.

🚨911🚨To the Premier of Manitoba: Give us some help Heather Stephenson.
Minister Greg Nesbitt, we invite you to come up with us and walk in our shoes to see what is really going on in the companion pet crisis. We plead for you to loop in Manitoba Wildfire Service and Conservation Officer Service to assist with feeding animals and flying in food and staff for pets not allowed to fly with owners.

Some good summer tips. It sure has gotten hot quickly!!!

It’s HOT outside this week, and it's up to you to make sure your pet stays cool and comfortable. People can take their ability to adapt to hot weather for granted and forget that their pet doesn’t have the same natural cooling capability. While you may not find that the temperature is too hot to be outside, your dog may be miserable or simply going along to please you.

It is essential that you keep fresh, cool water available to your pets at all times. In hot weather, this is even more crucial, especially when pets are outside. Make sure you keep the water dish in a shady location and change the water frequently. Your pet might enjoy a little sunbathing, but must have access to a cool, shady spot to relax. Prolonged sun exposure can not only lead to heat exhaustion, but can also cause sunburn.

One common mistake people make is taking their dog on a walk in the heat. Pavement gets very hot under the summer sun and can easily burn the pads of your dog's feet. If it's too hot for you to walk on barefoot, it's too hot for your dog. Take your walks in a grassy park or, in the least, direct your dog to walk on the grass next to the sidewalk.

This is so important as we head into summer and hot days. A reminder never hurts right?

A pet peeve of mine is when people bring their dogs to an event where there are crowds, loud music and hot pavement. Heat exhaustion is a serious condition to be aware of!

A NOTE FROM YOUR DOG…
THAT COULD SAVE THEIR LIFE!

Dear Mom and Dad,

Please let me stay home. It's not nice for me to walk and run next to you. But because I am a loyal dog, I often go beyond my limits. So I walk and run beside you, standing still if I have to, and feel my paws burn.

I'm looking at you for a moment, but you do not understand. Because in a little over 5 minutes we're at the cool puddle, right? But those little 5 minutes can be fatal to me because I sweat through my paws, and in this heat I just can not get rid of the sweat.

My whole body is boiling, but I keep going ..... And then I end up on the tarmac. In the heat and in the sun. With my tongue out of my mouth and my eyes flashing in the sun. My paws are burning, my tongue is dry and my head is pounding in the heat that my body cannot get rid of.

Instead, let me stay at home, in the house where I can enjoy the sun through the window and the AC both, with a large bowl of water, and a soft bed.

Love, Your dog

Tomorrow is many dogs' least favourite day of the year. But there are ways that you can help them cope. Ignore the old line that you will feed their fear by comforting them; like a child afraid of a loud noise turning and running toward a parent, dogs facing stressful situations have been found to turn to their owners as safe havens. Check out some more advice here: https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/dog-spies/good-and-bad-ways-to-help-a-dog-afraid-of-fireworks/

Every bird has to learn to hop before they can learn to fly! That means that they will spend time on the ground - it's a normal part of their development and their parents are normally nearby keeping a close eye on them. It's important to leave these "fledglings" alone so they can continue to learn what they need to from their parents about how to be an adult bird!

Fireworks may be a "traditional" part of summer holidays, but they can make those holidays miserable for pets, wildlife, and some people with PTSD. Please consider other ways to celebrate!

Did you know that in the City of Windsor there is a bylaw that limits when consumer fireworks can be discharged? They are ONLY permitted on:
-Victoria Day, or the day immediately before or after Victoria Day;
-the day before Canada Day and the following days up to and including the Fourth of July; and
-New Year’s Eve.

While these bylaws still allow consumer fireworks, they do limit when they can be discharged so people (and their pets!) can be prepared. Violations of the bylaw can be reported to the City by calling 311 or called in to the non-emergency Windsor police number (519-258-6111).
