This month we have a motherless litter of puppies that are 5 weeks old. Because they survived as a group they have been named after the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers characters. They are all being placed in foster homes and will be with us for a while, as they all require differing levels of vet care.

Along with these amazing little ones is another fighter named Wilma; she was brought to CAWS riddled with BB pellets and a broken femur that will require a leg amputation. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will be dedicated to covering the significant vet and rehab costs.

In this heat, pets are best left to chill at home.

Sadly, cases of pets and people left alone in hot vehicles continue, with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services having responded to more than 30 calls in the last week -- 11 of them on Saturday. With these temperatures vehicles heat up very quickly, well above the outside temperature, and pets do not have the same ability to cool down like we do. The situation can become dangerous fast, leading to overheating, heatstroke, and even death.

Please spread the word that a vehicle is not a dogsitter by sharing this helpful info from our friends at Animal Care & Control Centre - Edmonton, Edmonton Police Service and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.
