Nature PhotoHikes Nature PhotoHikes combines hikes with nature photography lessons, connecting outdoor enthusiasts thr Nature PhotoHikes combines hiking with photo lessons.

We guarantee a fun and safe experience while connecting you with other nature and photography enthusiasts. As our guest, you believe in buying experiences (not things) and taking pictures (not souvenirs)! Our hikes are based on physical ability, from half day easy hikes to full day strenuous ones in Vancouver and Whistler, BC. In addition, we organize multiple day camping and road trips to Alberta

and Canada's north. Everyone of varying skills is welcome to attend, regardless of your photography experience. Whether you carry an advanced DSLR camera or an iPhone, we will customize your lessons as well as give you the option to rent while learning to use advanced equipment. Our small groups allow for one-on-one, customized, instructions as well as keen attention to your hiking experience. Our photographer and guide, Nafees Shams, is an avid traveler, photographer and hiker. He has organized group hiking for over ten years and has traveled to over fifty countries where he goes off the beaten path to capture some amazing scenery, people and places. Although he teaches landscape photography, there is more to the concept than photographing just mountains and lakes. There's a fine line between landscape and the abstract, which allows the traveler to capture more than the 'I was here' photos.

As we head into spring and folks head to the beach, the snow on the mountains remain. As a matter of fact, this is the time of year in Vancouver where one can hit the slopes in the morning to ski, snowboard and snowshoe, and follow that by playing beach volleyball in the afternoon the same day! Lucky to live here for the past 20 years, that's one of the ways I celebrate my birthday, calling it the "Snow and Sand" birthday tradition :)

We continue our busy winter season by saying goodbye to 2022 and welcoming 2023! The snowshoeing tours were attended by travelers - some who experienced snow for the first time - as well as locals mesmerized by the amount of snowfall on our ski hills.

Winter has arrived much earlier than usual in Vancouver, especially on the mountains. Which made for a busy last month of snowshoeing at our favourite local ski resort. The current snowfall in the city is a reminder of the saying "we like our snow on the mountains and not on the streets". Yes, we'd rather take in the beauty of winter on the mountains and forests instead of having to dig ourselves from snow filled parking lots :)

A final glimpse at our summer alpine hikes, ending with Stawamus Chief. We're not done with the mountains yet, as an early season snowfall means we've started our snowshoeing tours already. Stay tuned for photos of our fall as well as upcoming winter tours.

Just as we began summer, we ended it with the popular hike. A steep climb up thick old-growth forest and waterfalls and finishing on rocky slopes that require ladders and chains, the Chief is a favourite among both locals as well as visitors. We'll be doing our last hike of the year to the Squamish attraction and continue next spring after the snow melts.

We completed the last of our summer hikes to Garibaldi Lake after a late season start with temporary closures due to snow, floods, smokes and bear attacks! While we enjoy sharing the stunning views with our many guest hikers and also our photos with the world, let's not forget our dependence and gratitude to mother nature for giving us the opportunity to cherish its beauty.

Garibaldi Lake is a popular hiking trail that has attracted visitors from all over the world. The beautiful turquois lake, with a backdrop of surrounding mountains, forests and glacier isn't easy to hike to and this summer was made even harder due to excessive snow followed by floods caused by heat waves. When we did manage to get to it, we bushwacked through forests and discovered new trails, while attempting to climb even higher to get a view of the stunning lake.

We hiked Joffre Lakes - all 3 of them - over 20 times this summer because other alpine lakes were inaccessible due to snow and floods. Add to that record setting heat which made swimming in the ice-cold glacier water all the more rewarding!

We finished our U.S. West Coast road trip on a high - traveling through the majestic Oregon Coast. The diversity of landscape throughout Oregon is amazing - from mountains to rugged coastlines and thick forests to deserts, the state has it all!

When the U.S.-Canada land border opened back in November of last year, we were the first ones to cross it! Six months later, we fulfilled our obsession with its National Parks with the purchase of the annual pass. This time, Red Rock Canyon in Nevada - a short drive from Las Vegas - provided great opportunities for some stunning photography and hiking.

Spring is wonderful anywhere, but Vancouver Island is blessed with gorgeous weather, wildlife and scenery during this time. Our trip to Victoria saw less rain than in Vancouver, enough to put in a few hikes while still enjoying the cherry blossoms and gorgeous mountain views, none more epic than Washington's Mt. Baker.
