Moraines, stream crossings, waterfalls and breathtaking views - what more can you ask for on a backpacking trip?! 💧🥾
The Iceline is a Rockies classic that takes hikers up above the Yoho Valley, traverses along a glacially-scraped landscape of rock and ice, and weaves through lush green meadows filled with alpine flowers. This world-class backpacking trip hikes past five waterfalls, numerous brilliant turquoise lakes and 360 degree views.

Some of the most beautiful views in the mountains come in the summer months with the explosion of alpine flowers. These hardy plants have adapted to live at altitude and only have a few months to show their stuff. The variety and abundance of flowers is akin to the richness found in a coral reef and the delicate balance within the ecosystem is just as complex.
Some of the best places to witness this beautiful display of colour are on more remote, less travelled hikes. Our remote backpacking trips aim to share this abundant environment with folks while underscoring the importance of treading lightly and aligning with leave no trace principles.🥾🌱🌸
This summer we are running Remote Backpacking trips August 15-18, 2024 and September 12-15, 2024.

We know the spring hiking season is just getting under way but we're already excited for the fall and the beauty of hiking in the luscious colours of the larch tree! Larch trees are one of the few deciduous conifers which means each fall they shed their leaves. Each fall the golden colour of larch trees pop up and pepper the hillsides and mountain tops of the Canadian Rockies and Columbia Valley.
This year we're offering a series of day hikes geared towards admiring these lovely trees in a fall hiking series. 🍂🍁

High above the Yoho Valley, hikers can walk amongst the moraines and rock steps scoured by the recent retreat of the Emerald Glacier, still visible above. Walking through this landscape can feel like a kind of moonscape and reveals layers of time and erosion on its path.
🌞 Crisp blue skies and autumn sunshine are some of the best conditions to appreciate this trail as the mountain colours turn to gold and red. We've just added a few Iceline backpacking trips for September 2024. 🍂🍁

Stunning views, delicious food and great company 😊...What better way to spend a weekend away?!
Diana Lake Lodge is a hidden gem in the Canadian Rockies. Nestled in the Brisco Range just outside the north west edge of Kootenay National Park, this lodge has been in operation for over 60 years. In summer 2024, for the first time, we're partnering with Diana Lake Lodge to present the Women's Backpacking Trip to Diana Lake Lodge! This trip off the beaten path will feature hikes in meadows full of alpine flowers and fantastic views. At the end of the day, we will kick back and relax with delicious food and like-minded souls.

One of the greatest things about getting to the summit is the new vantage point it gives on the landscape, but also the new perspective it presents on what we're capable of when we challenge ourselves.
Setting goals and propelling oneself to new heights in fitness and in the mountains are the focus in the spring Hiker Summit Series. In this series we tackle the local summits around Canmore including Ha Ling, Grotto Mountain and the East End of Rundle (EEOR) together we like-minded folks. At the completion of each hike you’ll receive a badge commemorating your accomplishment! 🏆 🥾
If this sounds like a challenge you're interested in, come join our crew! The first hike is June 29.

Over at Get Outside Adventures headquarters we love hiking with our furry friends in the back country! One of the joys of hiking can be sharing it with a trusted four legged friend - both day trips and overnight. However, it is a rare discovery to find a lodge that accepts these friends for sleepovers.
Enter = Diana Lake Lodge!
Diana Lake Lodge is one of the few backpacking lodges that accepts (well-behaved) dogs for overnight stays. It's one of the reasons we're so pleased to be working with them on our Woman's Backpacking Trip to Diana Lake Lodge this July!
From now until June 4th, this trip is on sale for 30% off regular price!

Often when folks start out in the backcountry they stick to established, well known trails. While this is a great approach when you are learning the ropes, there is a whole WORLD of possibilities when you take a step into off-trail, wilderness backpacking. Learning how to navigate off trail, safely cross rivers and build a remote backcountry camp are all valuable skills to hone for all hikers and backpackers.

The morning sun illuminates The Rockwall at Floe Lake.
This 600 meter cliff of banded limestone is part of the Ottertail Formation that runs south from Yoho National Park and into Kootenay National Park, and formed during the Late Cambrian period. The 54 km Rockwall trail traverses below the wall of rock that gives it its name, offering an abundance of spectacular views, alpine meadows and beautiful hanging glaciers.
Our Rockwall Trip heads takes hikers from north to south, finishing at the sublime beauty of Floe Lake. A morning coffee by the lake is the a perfect way to wrap up this five day adventure before the 10.5 km hike back to the trailhead.

Did you know? This bright purple dome of flowers is called Moss Campion and is a common alpine plant found in the Canadian Rockies. Though it is one of the faster growing plants, it takes 10 years to flower and is sensitive to being walked on.
On remote backpacking trips, if you’re hiking off trail with a group, you should spread out to ensure that you aren’t walking on the same spots. This approach aligns with principles and helps to minimize impact on alpine ecosystems.

One of the cool things about the West Coast Trail is how it weaves its way between the rainforest and ocean ecosystems. Beach walks at low tide reveal a myriad of sea creatures and the sounds of sea lions, whales and sea birds accompany you as you walk between forest and shore.
August is one of the most spectacular times to be on the trail and we happen to have spots on our August 4-11 Trip.

Diana Lake Lodge is situated just outside the NW boundary of Kootenay National Park in the Briscoe range. Roughly 6 km to the west (as the crow flies) lies the Southern Rocky Mountain Trench Fault which reveals itself as a wide valley separating the Columbia Mountains from the Rockies.
The entire Rocky Mountain Trench runs from the Liard River in northern B.C all the way to just south of the International Border – approximately 1600km! The faulting in this region of the Rockies is known as block faulting and began here about 60 million years ago.
The ancient geologic history of the area also reveals itself in the fossils of Fossil Ridge found above Diana Lake Lodge. Deposited over 500 million years ago and representing a cross section of aquatic life from the middle of the pre-Cambrian era, the fossils of the Canadian Rockies can remind us of the deep time embedded in the earth’s geologic processes.
