So, while I do have bug spray, I unfortunately forgot to spray on my 1st night here. While being bitten is bad enough, I unfortunately have a minor allergic reaction to tropical bugs๐ข. The Afterbite I brought helped but this morning I broke down and visited the clinic. Thankfully I did have insurance and my 5 minute $250USD visit, including antibiotic cream, is covered. Moral of my post...always use bug spray and always have insurance as you just never know ๐ข And P.S. This is day 4 and they have gotten better....they were much worse๐ข

Melia Punta Cana and Melia Caribe
These two properties are two properties in a large resort complex. Family friendly (Caribe) and Adults Only Wellness/Zen Focused (Punta Cana) are located on beautiful Bavaro Beach and just 25 minutes from the airport. Amenities include multiple restaurants and bars, a beautiful spa, gym, numerous pools and the gorgeous beach. This very large resort includes 3 other resorts which I did not get to see except for one where I was able to just take a quick walk around, The Paradisus which has 596 rooms but is a much smaller footprint and easily walkable
- 768 rooms at Caribe and 475 rooms at Punta Cana
- Except for the casino and spa there are no share privileges.
-These resorts offers their standard rooms and an upgraded option known as The Level option which comes with perks like separate check in/out area with bar and snacks, a butler, private pools and private beach area, exclusive restaurants, upgraded room amenities, etc.
-The adults side also offers The Level Stay Well category and in addition to The Level perks you'll also get exercise equipment in your room, air purifier, use of bikes, and the best part? Daily 50 minute massage for your stay.
- Each side has rooms close to the beach and for the family side these are the ones I recommend but for the adult side I prefer the gardenview ones.
- Family side offers kids club/teens club, smaller kids water park, playground area and pool right at the beach.
-Adult side has numerous zen spots, hammocks throughout, and a beautiful array of pools near the beach
- The grounds on this resort are beautiful, lush and well cared for
- This resort is large and while walkable, if you have kids I'd probably recommend the train for anything longer than a 2 minute walk
- The spa here is gorgeous and even just walking through it I was relaxed ๐
- Reservations required for all restaurants.
This is another property I sell a lot for both families and adults as it typically prices quite well. It is a great choice for families looking for a great place to enjoy the sun and for adult looking for a relaxing week in a beautiful setting. ๐

Royalton Bavaro
This beautiul family friendly property is located on beautiful Bavaro Beach andย just 30 minutes from the airport which is great when you have young kids. Amenities include multiple restaurants and bars, a spa, gym, numerous pools, lazy river, flow rider, mini golf, and of course, the gorgeous beach.
- 730 rooms of which 194 are swim out
-This resort offers their standard rooms and a Diamond Club option which comes with perks like separate check in/out area with bar and snacks, a butler, private pools and private beach area, exclusive restaurants,ย upgraded room amenities, etc.
- If you are staying in Diamond Club you get free access to the Royalton Splash Waterpark which is about 15 min away by included transfer.ย If you're not Diamond Club there is a nominal fee of around $30 USD/Person which also includes the transfer. And food and drinks are also included while there in the waterpark area.
- Reservations required for all restaurants and these are made via their App
- They offer a chef's table dinner which is extra at around $150USD per person for this fully immersive experience.
- Mini golf on site is included
- Flow rider includes one hour per person per day for Diamond Club and those not in Diamond Club can purchase a package, i.e. 15 minutes for $30USD
-Kids Club (ages 3 to 12) and Teens Club (ages 13 go 17) included plus on site babysitting available for a fee.
-Beautiful beach
-Beautiful pools
-Beautiful lazy river going through the entire resort with places for kids to get out and slide into water....plus a "drive thru" bar
-Swim up suites (no age restriction)
- Family suites, 1 and 2 bedroom suites
-Well equipped gym with a large schedule of daily included classes like yoga, HIT, etc.
-Numerous beautiful venues for weddings
This is a property I sell a lot and I am glad that I was able to view it in person. It is a great choice for families looking for a great place to enjoy the sun for a week...or two ๐

Dreams/Secrets Royal Beach
This property consists of an Adults Only Resort (Secrets) and a Family Friendly Resort (Dreams) which are operated as two separate resorts. Located on beautiful Bavaro Beach andย just 35 minutes from the airport which is a bonus. Amenities include multiple restaurants and bars, a spa, gym, numerous pools and of course, the gorgeous beach.
- Dreams has just 486 rooms while Secrets has 639 rooms
-These resorts offer their standard rooms and a Preferred Club option which comes with perks like separate check in/out area with bar and snacks, a butler, private pools and private beach area, exclusive restaurants, exclusive use of paddleboats, upgraded room amenities, etc.
-Each side has their own amenities, i.e. restaurants, pools, beach, etc. however they do share some things, i.e. the gym, spa, disco and casino.
- Adults staying at Secrets have full use of all areas of Dreams except Preferred Club areas unless you are Preferred Club at Secrets.
-Shuttle service is offered between resorts but it's not needed as they are literally side by side
- No reservations required for anything but Teppenyaki.
- Specialty meals available on Secrets side, i.e. floating breakfast, romantic dinner, etc. for nominal fee.
-Small and large water slides
-Kids Club (ages 3 to 12) and Teens Club (ages 13 go 17) included plus on site babysitting available for a fee.
-Free shuttle service to a nearby shopping mall
-Beautiful beach
-Beautiful pools
-Swim up suites (ages 13 & up only)
-Pool walkout terrace suites (all ages)
- Family suites
-Well equipped gym
-Numerous beautiful venues for weddings
If you are looking for a quality resort, whether it be adults only or family, then put this one on your list. It is a beautiful property, and the Secrets side is a great choice for that romantic getaway ๐ฅฐ

Hyatt Ziva/Hyatt Zilara
This property, which consists of an Adults Only Half (Zilara) and a Family Friendly Half (Ziva), to be blunt, blew my mind with how beautiful and awesome it is. Located in the gated community of Cap Cana, just 15 minutes from the airport, it is set on 5 acres and the beach is one of the best I have seen so far on my visit Amenities include multiple restaurants and bars, a spa, and a wide array of entertainment programs suitable for children and adults and the staff here, from my observations, go out of their way to treat not just the guests, but their coworkers, like royalty!
-Each side of this resort has 375 rooms and they are pretty much mirror images of each other however the restaurants and experience on each side differs, i.e. family side caters to kids with tons of activities and kid desired food options, while the adults only side caters to adults looking for a quieter experience
-Each side has their own amenities, i.e. restaurants, pools, beach, etc. however they do share some things, i.e. the most amazing gym I have ever seen on a resort, the kids/teens clubs, waterpark, spa
- The only non included restaurant is The Blind Butcher which has a secret entrance into the restaurant. This immersive, interactive experience costs, on average, $150USD for the meal and drinks and is open to guests 13 years and up. And is also the ONLY restaurant on site to require reservations.
-Small and large water slides
-Kids Club (ages 3 to 12) and Teens Club (ages 13 go 17) included plus on site babysitting available for a fee.
-Beautiful beach, and I do mean beautful
-Beautiful pools
-Swim up suites (ages 13 & up only)
- Adults can use facilities at both properties.

-Literally the best gym I have ever seen at a resort
-Numerous beautiful venues for weddings
If you are looking for a luxury resort, whether it be adults only or family, this is the one for you. This was a truly amazing property to visit and I can only imagine that staying here would make for the perfect week in Punta Cana.

Sunscape Coco Cana
This family-friendly, all-inclusive resort is located just 30 minutes from the airport. The property offers multiple swimming pools, and various water sports and activities. Amenities include multiple restaurants and bars, a spa, and a wide array of entertainment programs suitable for children and adults.
-Larger resort with 1,091 rooms however it is wide, not deep, so all rooms are within close proximity to the beach
-Small and large water slides
-Kids Club (ages 3 to 12) and Teens Club (ages 13 go 17) included plus on site babysitting available for a fee.
-Beautiful beach
-Beautiful pools
-Swim up suites with no age restriction
-Reservations required for dining (done on their App)
-Adults only section available
- Family suites
-Well equipped gym
-Numerous beautiful venues for weddings
I have sold this resort frequently, so I was excited to see it. And I will admit, pleasantly surprised because I am not a fan of huge resorts, but the way this one is laid out, itโs actually not that bad. This will remain on my list as a good option for families looking for a decent resort at an affordable price point.

-Numerous beautiful venues for weddings
As many of you know, this is one of my favorite resorts in Punta Cana for families as it has a bit of everything for every age, and after viewing it in person, it will continue to be so.

Today I saw the Grand Bavaro Princess Complex which is comprised of two resorts.
Grand Bavaro Princess With 888 Rooms
โข This resort offers a broad appeal, catering to couples, groups, and individuals seeking a classic all-inclusive experience.
โข Beautiful grounds including a mangrove area with walkways, beautiful bright blue water beach, variety of pools, gym, spa, two kids clubs, small waterpark, variety of dining options, 24 hour room service ($ for those not in Platinum or Honeymoon Suites).
โข The rooms are gorgeous here and all the same in terms of looks, however if you're staying in Platinum Level or a Honeymoon Suite you have extras including location closer to the beach, exclusive dining options, separate check in and exclusive beach, pool areas.
โข Elevators in the buildings.
โข All rooms are a king bed with pull out couch and will accommodate up to 4, however, the Honeymoon Suites only allow 2.
Family Club Princess With 164 Rooms
โข This section of the resort is specifically tailored to families with children.
โข Key features include kids' clubs, dedicated pools with small kid water park, and family-friendly accommodations that sleep up to 5 with swim out suites available.
โข Separate check in area.
โข Exclusive restaurant for breakfast and lunch.
โข Able to use most of the ammenities at the Grand Bavaro Princess Resort but rest of resort cannot come here.
My Overalll Impression
I think this is a great resort for families, but, even though they have Honeymoon Suites I wouldn't recommend this as a choice for couples. It's a large resort and depending on where your room is, it can be a long walk to the beach, restaurants, etc. but they do offer golf cart shuttles. The rooms and the grounds are beautiful and well cared for, and the beach is beautiful and offers that bright blue water we all love to see. Their wedding set up that I saw also looked nice and was in a private beach area. I know that if I were to stay here with kids I would choose the Family Club Section for its smaller size, closeness to lobby and most restaurants, room size, and the pool/waterpark steps from your room. If I were staying with a group of friends and could do Platinum I would do that, and if not I'd request a room closer to the beach. Overall, I think this is a solid choice for families with younger kids and I was very pleased with everything I saw today.

Today I leave for Punta Cana for a 7 Night Stay at two resort complexes from which Iโll be inspecting 10 to 15 resorts including the RIU Complex, Dreams Flora, Dreams/Secrets Royal Beach, Sunscape, Melia Complex, Princess Complex and Hyatt Cap Cana! I am an ageless adult, with two grown and amazing children in their 20โs, my first granddaughter born in May 2020, one hairy yellow lab, and a cat named after the most awesome goalie ever โ Carey Price. I was born in Thunder Bay (Port Arthur) and spent most of my growing up years out in BC, returning here when I was 18 years old and Iโm here to stay as I absolutely love this amazing city and cannot imagine living anywhere else.
In 2016, one year after losing my husband and best friend of 27 years, I decided it was time to walk away from the desk job I had been working at, well, for pretty much my entire life, and my decision to join TravelOnly came about after months of research and phone calls, and has turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made, as I joined not just a company, but a family.
