A conversation my 15-year-old son and I recently had at a campground:

15yo: “Dad! Our campsite has USB!”

Me: “I don’t think so.”

15yo: “No. I saw it.”

Me: “I really don’t think so.”

15yo: “I SAW IT!”

Me: “Where?”

[15yo walks me to the shore power and lifts the lid.]

Me: “Son, that’s an electrical outlet.”

FWIW, my son said it was OK for me to share this story.

Over the past week, I (Eric K.) booked campsites at Pacific Rim National Park and Rathtrevor Provincial Park—both through Campnab alerts.

Neither of these worked out on the first try, or even the second, because others beat me to those openings. I kept at it, though, and eventually reserved the campsites I wanted.

I wrote this post to help explain what could be happening when the campsite you were alerted to seems to be gone:

Have you ever received an alert, clicked to book the spot, and it was already gone? You aren’t alone. If you use a campsite scanner like Campnab, y...
