Prismatic Arts Festival Prismatic is an annual, multidisciplinary arts festival that showcases and celebrates work of Indigenous artists and artists of color.

Based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia), the Prismatic Arts Festival has been bringing audiences vibrant, boundary-pushing new works in theatre, dance, music, film, visual arts, media arts, and spoken word since 2008. Through engaging performances, the TALK conference, workshops, and masterclasses, Prismatic’s annual festival brings artists and audiences together for an open dialogue. People of

Dr. Mark V. Campbell is a DJ, scholar, and curator. As co-founder of the Bigger than Hip Hop radio show in 1997 and founder at Northside Hip Hop Archive in 2010, Mark has spent two decades embedded within the Toronto hip hop scene operating from community engaged praxis as both a DJ and a Curator.

Ibe Ananaba is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the impact of sociocultural complexities on contemporary living, with an interest in art as a tool for social transformation. Shianne Gould is a talented Mi’kmaq artist who resides in Whycocomagh First Nation. She has been painting since childhood. Her work is characterized by vivid, vibrant colours with themes surrounding family and relationship to Mother Earth. Shianne’s art has been featured in the Friends United initiative.

Winter Moons is a story of L’nu (Mi’kmaw) women caring for a surviving the three moons of winter together in the forest. The story follows L’nu women who care for a fire ember through the winter season. L'nu legends, star stories, and contemporary dance express the harsh realities of living off the land in a long-ago Mi'kma'ki winter.

Storyteller shalan joudry and choreographer Sarah Prosper bring together contemporary and theatrical movement and music in a dance-theatre performance that weaves together cultural teachings and timeless stories.

Prismatic is hiring two positions – Technical Producer and Marketing Coordinator! 📣

Are you interested in learning about the arts sector and festival production? Would you like to work with a close-knit team that is dedicated to showcasing and uplifting the work of Indigenous artists and artists of colour? Come work with us at Prismatic!

We are looking for a TECHNICAL PRODUCER who can:
- Assess and source production needs of artists’ performances and festival events
- Create pre-festival and production schedules
- Coordinate technical personnel with the Technical Director
- Assist with festival preparation as part of a supportive and adaptive team, working both independently and with guidance and collaboration

We are looking for a MARKETING COORDINATOR who can:
- Prepare marketing materials and press releases
- Create and post content on social media
- Prepare email, newsletter, and media communications
- Perform daily office and organizational tasks
- Assist with festival preparations

These job opportunities are funded by Canada Summer Jobs and, therefore applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and legally entitled to work in Canada. For more information about eligibility requirements or to apply for the position, email us at [email protected]!

Through Village Stories, we investigate the artistic practices of Indigenous and intercultural artists, bringing recognition and understanding to the public while strengthening our inter-community connections.

Village Stories will provide a platform for dialogue and connection between culturally rooted artists; where we can share protocols, artistic processes, strategies for navigating creative blocks, how we recover culturally rooted practices, and applications for other areas of interest and study.

SAVE THE DATE! Dancing Kmɨtkinu Showing - Friday April 19, 6-7:30pm | Join us for a multidisciplinary evening of performance with Shalan Joudry, Canadian Museum of Immigration / Musée canadien de l'immigration's Artist in Residence. This special evening includes a reading of shalan’s original poem Kmɨtkinu (in various languages) with musical accompaniment, and a work-in-progress showing of Dancing Kmɨtkinu, a new collaboration between Mocean Dance and Nestuita’si Storytelling, followed by an artist talk and reception.

This is a special sneak-peek into the creative process for this new movement work, which explores and embodies the words, images, and important messages of shalan’s poem. The work features choreography by Sarah Prosper in collaboration with shalan, and Mocean’s co-artistic directors Sara Coffin and Susanne Chui, with dance artists Isaac Abriel, Robert Azevedo, I'thandi Munro and Sam Penner, and mentee NAT Chantel.
