Many people ask me why should they use a travel agent. I’ve shared many reasons in the past but I thought I’d share just one particular story. I booked a large family group trip for a couple who was celebrating a special anniversary for them, their children and grandchildren. Coordinating a trip with a large number of people is complicated enough but the real problem started when they got to the airport and the man was denied boarding because of watermarks on his passport that he wasn’t aware of. And of course they were travelling on a Sunday. I received a frantic phone call from them from the airport and was quickly able to get him information on the emergency passport office which he was able to get to as soon as it opened. The rest of the family group had to go ahead without him, but not before his wife was told at the airport that because he wasn’t on the outbound flight his return flight was going to be cancelled. I was already aware of this and was already on the phone with the supplier making sure that this didn’t happen. I also was able to get him a flight for the next day very quickly that he needed in order to qualify for an emergency passport. Had they not used a travel agent they would have had to navigate this alone and most likely he wouldn’t have been able to get there the next day. A family trip to celebrate an anniversary would have been ruined. Just something to keep in mind when deciding if you need to use a travel agent.
