🌊 The Story of a Sea Stack – Nature’s Tower on the West Coast Trail 🌊

Hiking along the rugged coastline of the West Coast Trail, you’ll spot towering rock pillars rising from the waves—these are sea stacks, sculpted by the relentless power of the Pacific Ocean. 🌊⛏️

It all starts with a headland, where cracks in the rock widen over time as waves crash against it. 🌊🌪️ Slowly, the ocean carves out a sea cave, which then transforms into a sea arch. But the forces of nature never rest. Eventually, the arch collapses, leaving behind a solitary sea stack, standing as a testament to time and erosion. 🏔️⏳

These formations are more than just stunning coastal landmarks—they’re a reminder of nature’s power and patience. Next time you pass one, take a moment to appreciate the forces that shaped it over thousands of years.

Braille Mountain Initiative is an amazing organization with an aim to empower blind and visually impaired individuals to overcome barriers and unlock new potential through backcountry experiences.

That last one is super important. If you haven't taken your AST-1 and are going in the backcountry...you're doing it wrong. Lot's of courses available out there with and many other operators. Do your friends a favour, know how to find them, if it all goes bad!🤘

Why do we do it?

It's simple...the people. We met Elly (we affectionately refer to her as Miss Elly) on our 2024 West Coast Trail trip in September. She was a total star and had so much fun that Miss Elly came to the Columbia Valley to check out our "backyard"

The juice was worth the squeeze…always!

We sure did squeeze hard…tricky roots, mud for days, deep sand and so much more. How do you spell FUN on the WCT? M U D! lol But the beauty of the place makes it all worth it. Whales, seals, sea lions, a family of river otters (3m away staring at us), mink, black bears, bald eagles, eating fresh crab, and so much more…whoa!👌🏻

Our guests showed a ton of grit and determination on this trip and loved it the whole way. An absolute group of legends.🙌🏻 Thanks for choosing Playwest!
