Braille Mountain Initiative is an amazing organization with an aim to empower blind and visually impaired individuals to overcome barriers and unlock new potential through backcountry experiences.

We have had the absolute honour to host this group this past summer. A main driver for Braille to offer these trips to their visually impaired members is fundraising through events like their online auction.

That last one is super important. If you haven't taken your AST-1 and are going in the backcountry...you're doing it wrong. Lot's of courses available out there with and many other operators. Do your friends a favour, know how to find them, if it all goes bad!🤘

Why do we do it?

It's simple...the people. We met Elly (we affectionately refer to her as Miss Elly) on our 2024 West Coast Trail trip in September. She was a total star and had so much fun that Miss Elly came to the Columbia Valley to check out our "backyard"

The juice was worth the squeeze…always!

We sure did squeeze hard…tricky roots, mud for days, deep sand and so much more. How do you spell FUN on the WCT? M U D! lol But the beauty of the place makes it all worth it. Whales, seals, sea lions, a family of river otters (3m away staring at us), mink, black bears, bald eagles, eating fresh crab, and so much more…whoa!👌🏻

Our guests showed a ton of grit and determination on this trip and loved it the whole way. An absolute group of legends.🙌🏻 Thanks for choosing Playwest!

Coming out of a recent backpacking trip and hearing the devastating news of Jasper and other communities has our hearts heavy. 😔
Thinking of the many that have been displaced and lost it all.
While Mother Nature can be beautiful, she can be cruel sometimes too.
