Calling all adventurers! 🌏✈️ What's the most unforgettable drink you've savoured while travelling abroad? Share your top picks below!

Exploring the world one sip at a time! 🌍✨ Read Wheel and Anchor's three reasons to indulge while away, straight from our newsletter.

Three reasons to drink when you’re away! Read the full three reasons:
1. Countries often keep the best stuff to themselves
When I first started spending time in Austria and Germany, I noticed the wine was a lot better than their LCBO reputations back home. I soon learned that, in order to export, wine producers have to make certain quite large minimum quantities to make it worth anyone’s commercial while. And in many places, the best booze is the small-batch booze, which never makes it beyond its national – or sometimes even regional – borders.
2. Terroir
It’s not just a fancy wine-tasting term. You can learn a lot about a place from what they like to drink there. Rakia in the Balkans is not only a sign they can be a hard-drinking lot, but also just how much of an influence their time as part of the Ottoman Empire still has on them. (Rakia comes from raki, which you can still get in Turkey, the seat of the Ottomans.)
3. Fun
´Nuf said.

This week, Wheel and Anchor is unveiling the full 3 reasons right here on Facebook! Tune in every Wednesday for a sneak peek, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Three reasons travel is safe:
1. Possibility vs probability
It is possible that when you walk out your front door later on today, you will be hit by a stray bullet. But it is not probable. Once we realize that we already live our lives based on the probability that crossing the street will not result in getting hit by a car, that our next-door neighbours are not serial killers, though both these things are eminently possible, it shouldn’t be a big leap to apply the same thinking to things outside our comfort zones, like travel to new places.

2. Data is never without context
Jamaica regularly ranks near the top of global murder rates, as does Honduras. But if you look at how many tourists are hurt or killed, years go by without a single instance (you cannot always say the same for Canada and the US). Crime and violence are not general (once again, with the exception of failed states; and even there, parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo – a very large country – are quite safe), and visitors are almost never a part of that context.

3. At Wheel & Anchor, your safety is paramount
I or one of my team visit almost every place we set up trips to, often several times, before the first Wheel & Anchor community member sets foot on foreign soil. If I have the slightest sense that any place is not safe, I simply never put it on the itinerary. And once in-country, our hosts and guides and other service providers are all on the lookout for our travellers safety, so you can focus on getting everything out of the trip you want to.

Scotland's Ancient Heart: The Mountains Of The Lost World Of Pangea

This is what the mountains of Scotland do to you. They draw you in, fill your mind with their imposing immediacy, and make you feel deliciously small and insignificant.

This is what you’re seeing when you look at a Scottish mountain: not just a colossal outcrop of rock that catches the late afternoon sunlight in a way that makes your knees feel weak, but the scoured bones of a lost mountain range that have spent millions of years being carried across the surface ...

We bring travellers together.

It’s all about creating connections - with the places we visit, and the people we meet along the way.

To explore, discover, and travel is to feel alive. Our programs are designed to allow you to make the most of your visit to each place, and events are designed to connect you with others who share your passion for travel.

All of our programs are specially designed and curated for based on the interests of our members. We focus on staying a few nights in a few select places rather than bouncing to them all, giving you the chance to slow down and take in the beauty in front of you. So, for the traveller looking for others of like mind - get on our newsletter list at wheelandanchor.ca, and get connected with us!
